It's going to be a nail-biter. His tweet gives me confidence he might stay, but the 3rd round is still good money. The fact he fell to the very last pick of the 3rd round is the best case scenario for us I guess. He at least has a lot to think about now.
Might be good news for us that Tampa Bay took another high school SS in the 1st round. And, they also took a 2B yesterday in the 1st competitive balance round!
Not be negative, but the MLB draft is not based on immediate need, (or, actually, in projection of future need for some teams). Center fielders, shortstops, great hitters, and catchers and pitchers are at a premium. Center fielders drafted are likely to make the big leagues as left or right fielders if not CF, but not true the opposite. Shortstops drafted will make the bigs as 3B, 2B, if not shortstops, but not the opposite. Teams that stock their farms with those types have lots of trade value as they develop them on. They will take the best of all their shortstops, ceter fielders and trade the others, or brig them up for other defensive positions.
He’s gone. Dooney’s gone. Top 10 round picks don’t go to college. Burns is coming to Knoxville, though.
If we can keep Moore and Stephenson, I’ll be very happy with the way things turned out. If we can get Leath to come back, I’ll be over the moon.

Yep. The NIL now gives all the other programs outside of Nashville the opportunity to financially "encourage" kids to enjoy a few college years, too. I'm not a fan of the NIL, but it's here so I say use it to the max.You are correct that it is most likely that Spikes and Dooney are gone, but this is a unique draft. It's the first draft where NIL is a factor. I think you'll see more than just 2 HS prospects shunning the majors if they don't get the number they are looking for. Being a minor leaguer SUCKS. It's not an easy life. If you can develop in a more comfortable environment and cash in on your image, it might be enough to entice some top-end talent to stay.
