Russell Wilson Leaving NC State

That's cool O'Brien was so up front and honest with him and then is going to release him to go wherever he wants to go.

He's a phenomenal athlete that's going to make millions in either sport.

This was not unexpected. He has a much better shot of making MLB as opposed to the NFL. I think NC State will be ok. Their expectations in football aren't high and O'Brien is a solid enough coach to have them competitive against UNC which is all they care about anyway.

Glennon was highly touted out of high school, many thought he would transfer rather than sit behind Wilson his whole career. Obviously he knew what he was doing.

State fans better hope he is better than his brother was at VT.

O'Brien is first class.

This is a good move by Wilson. He was a good QB but his future is in baseball. Good luck to the kid.

O'Brien went too far here. Wilson was always intent on coming back to play his senior year at NC State - TOB knew this. But since Wilson was going to be absent from spring practice and wasn't 100% committed to football, TOB told him tough luck and sent him packing. Wilson is an amazing representative for the university... 4.0 GPA, star QB, great person, and has the opportunity to play MLB. Wilson wanted to keep both options open, but TOB wouldn't have any of it. Despite being absent for spring practice, having Wilson back in the fall makes that team tremendously better. I feel bad for NCSU fans...

This is what I was thinking as well.

Reminds me kinda of the Brett Favre situation when he retired the first time and Green Bay went with Aaron Rodgers even though Favre wanted to come back.. Wilson could have come back, but the job was going to Glennon because Wilson was gone all spring.

Right. Wilson didn't even expect to be the starter. All he wanted was to be on the team and be given a fair opportunity to compete for the job. I think it's unconscionable that he wouldn't at least be granted that.

Yeah, that turned out just awful for the Packers. Has the franchise recovered yet?

I can't believe Glennon has sat this long. Obviously, if Wilson was told he'd be a backup if he returned, the NC State staff knows its time for Glennon to play.

Both of which were correct decisions.

Russell Wilson, the modern day Joe Hamilton, was a great representative of NC State and a very good player for them. I think it is a mistake to force him out. I do agree that is good of O'Brien to let him transfer anywhere he wants.
