Rushing The Field At Neyland

Problem is, we end the UF streak this year @UF. Wish it could have happened last year in Neyland. I was there and ready to jump from AA! I will never complain about a W over UF, but I really wish the streak would end at home. That field deserves to be stormed!

Nothing beats the 1982 rush after the Bama game. I bought a T shirt the next day that said "We beat bama and the bear $hit". It was one for the scrapbook.

I was there that time. One of them goalposts went down Cumberland AV, I believe. :) :loco:

I got a good laugh out of the few that entertained us as they stormed the field on the weather delay against Oregon. Security chasing them around. Then Oregon came out and killed my good time.

I remember that. I was under the hangover in the north upper deck there was one that was coming off the field and a cop was pulling him back onto the field by his pants. He got loose but it was too late there was another cop that caught up to him and took him off in cuffs.

There was nothing about that game that had me wanting to storm the field. Even if UT pulled it out it was a very poorly played game by the O.

I think you're talking about "The Bluegrass Miracle". Kentucky had already begun sideline celebrations because they scored with 13 seconds left. They gave the coach a gatorade shower and everything then Saban rekt 'em on a ridiculously improbable 70 yard hail mary with no time left on the clock.

No, it was even worse than that...UK rushed the field not realizing they had lost. start the video at 1:20

Ideally , I'd like to see the players just point to the crowd as they casually walk off the field while the fans sing Rocky Top until the visitors puke on the 50 yard line . Storming just looks busch league imo.

Lol I helped carry it up the strip. Cops had Cumberland blocked at Volunteer on the west and 17th on the east pretty much all night.

I think if you are 15 years or older, you have know that such childless actions are negative reflections on the University and is punished by the SEC. I disremember the amount of the last fine, but believe it was $25,000 . The next fine I believe is $100.000. Why not act as if we have won some important games in the past and stay off the field. Several people have been injured and students destroyed A very expensive CBS camera which was attached to the South end zone goal post.

Yeah sorry bout the camera, I think we threw that POS into the river. :eek:lol:

If we rush the field this year, it won't be about the team we played so much as us emerging from the long dark woods we've been wandering in for the past decade.

I personally would love for it to be us rushing Alabama's field in that celebration, even though it's an away game. I don't know how often in history it has happened that the visitors rushed the opponents' field. Know it's been done, remember a kerfuffle about fans stomping the opposing team's midfield emblem down at one of the Florida campuses. I don't think we should be disrespectful of the other school's heraldry, just think Alabama would be the most fitting game to celebrate our return to prominence, if we could pull off the win (reality check: this would be a hard game to put in the W column in 2015; just saying). Not as good as celebrating at Neyland, but beating Georgia doesn't have the same "we're back" feel. :)

We have 6 titles now. I believe we will have 6 more by 2028.

It's funny how we all count different numbers of national championships for the Vols. I personally count 4, but you could conceivably include up to 7. Here are my four:

1938 - The 11-0 Vols were named #1 by nine of the 14 existing polls and scoring systems of the era. Did not include the AP, but that poll was still pretty new (in its third year) and not yet the dominant voice it would later become in selecting national champions.

1950 - Oklahoma (10-1) was named #1 by both the AP and the UPI. But 11-1 Tennessee was picked by the Billingsly Report, the Sagarin Ratings, the College Football Researchers Association, the National Championship Foundation, and a couple other polls and systems. All totaled, six nationally recognized polls/systems picked Oklahoma, and six selected Tennessee. Would be easier to call this a split championship between the two teams if both AP and UPI hadn't come down together for Oklahoma. I still count it for us, but I feel just a little parochial about it, heh.

1951 - Both AP and UPI named 10-1 Tennessee the national champions (though worth noting that 8 other systems/polls named either 10-0 Maryland or 9-0 Michigan State)

1998 - In the first year of the BCS era, 13-0 Volunteers were crowned the (almost completely undisputed) national champs (Sagarin went with 11-1 Ohio State).

And these three, I personally do not count as Volunteers' NCs:

1940 - A couple of scoring systems, Dunkel and Williamson, named 10-1 Tennessee. But the AP and nine other polls/systems all picked 8-0 Minnesota.

1956 - Only the Sagarin Ratings chose 10-1 Tennessee; the API, UPI and most other systems gave the nod to 10-0 Oklahoma.

1967 - The Litkenhous system (who? yeah, I know) named 9-2 Tennessee #1. Just them. The AP, UPI, and just about everyone else went with 10-1 USC.

I'm sure there are whole threads in VN dedicated to the question of how many NCs "count" ... I'm just too new to have seen them, heh. Go Vols!

In 2005 we lost in Gainesville.

Heh, this string of responses got away from you. Someone (508Mikey) originally asked if we'd ever rushed the court after a men's Basketball game, to which ATC_VOL said Florida 2005, and a third said he was there, great game. Tennessee did indeed beat Florida in basketball in 2005, twice, both at home and away.

Sometimes it's hard to keep up with all the conversations going on within a thread, I know.

Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying! In that case, I was on the court for it!
