Rush Probst

I'm sure he would be a support staff guy.... Good for recruiting purposes and can learn the college ranks from doing intern GA type stuff... The best system in NFL history (NE patriots) so the exact same thing.... Just be willing to drop the hammer if need be....

For him it seems to be about coaching. Would he be happy in that role. Could someone that Type A move to a staff position off the field. Would he walk away from a school he rebuilt, or built, that is dropping 6 mil on indoor HS facilities because of him.

Are you a Valdosta native, or a translant. One of my best HS football memories was Willie Gault's senior year. We were loaded. He was just the golden child. We had multiple gold and silver plated players. Heavy roster. We came into Valdosta in '79 and tied them 7-7 for the state championship. That was as good as beating them in their book. Valdosta fans were pissed. Our buses got vandalized. We were getting harassed. Had to load up and get out. Players and fans. I was still 8th grade and our season was over, so had to watch from the stands. Guess if we'd had home field we could have pulled it off. That was back when Valdosta was the absolute king of GA HS. Titles almost every year. LaGrange used to turn sprinklers on the field to slow us down. Played in a mud pit, but the sidelines would be dry. Our coach would dress us out (JV) for the varsity home games. 80+ on the varsity plus another 60 or so of us JV on the sidelines. didn't get to play obviously, but the look that gave the opponent when seeing 150 plus across the field.

Recommend this book about Valdosta football:

So is all the *****ing about something that happened a decade ago? Has he been accused of anything alarming recently? Personally, I believe adultery to be wrong, but hell, if we let our Presidents get away with it, why are we condemning a HS coach for it? And as far as the grade changing accusations, were they ever proven? My biggest question, is his current program clean? If Pruitt wants him, then whatever. Right now, this is his ship to run. His decisions will either guide us straight or sink us.

I don't know what you guys want. Jones was mean to the players cause he called them names. The players frankly quit (if they didn't quit, they suck as SEC players then cause that's all you can call 0-8) cause he was mean but now we're all dancing in the street cause he got a "tough" coach who's gonna work their ass off and hire a Jimmy High School coach to be his bad guy? Sounds like more drama to me.....

There's a huge difference between being and and showing tough love than being verbally and mentally abusive. It's not hard to figure out the difference between themand why one of those is unacceptable whether you're a child, teenager, women, man or anything else.

Adultery isn't a crime.

Unless you're in the military.

He going to headbutt the players on the sideline in the middle of a game? After googling him, he looks like a nightmare to deal with PR wise.

Trust me we heard plenty here in Alabama. Glad he’s “turned his life around” but sure as heck don’t want him as a part of the Tennessee staff. Too much drama. He should just finish out his career in the relative anonymity of S Georgia HS football. Not the glaring lights of the SEC!

That's not even close to the real story. Probst is one of the most crooked and Shady coach's and men you will ever come across. Many men and women lost their jobs back in the day for trying to cross him and get him out of Hoover. He didn't leave quietly and took an act of Congress to get him out of Hoover. Now he's one of the best HS Coach's in the country. Top 3-5 in the US. But having him at your school comes with a huge price and he's a control freak to the 2nd power. Whatever he wants he gets no matter what it takes. Doubt that's changed at his job in GA.

100% correct, I live 15 minutes from Colquitt High so I hear a lot of what goes on there. He's good, dang good, and has sent many players to the SEC.....which of course my favorite is Mr. Shamburger. But heavy is the price and he is treated like a God in Colquitt County, so I really don't see him walking away from all that power for a position coach job, I may be wrong but won't be the 1st time.

Big time SEC money can be a heck of a thing. If offered he will say yes.

He does like to be treated a certain way, so if he comes volnation better get ready. All that being said, will no doubt help our offense tremendously if he comes. And the other plus for me is seeing my Colquitt County neighbors crashing back to earth after he leaves, that will make me smile for days.

The fact that he openly admits having two families. Wife and kids. Girlfriend and kids that he lived about 50% of time with. Incognito for a long time until it came out. Never ended either one. Wife eventually did IIRC. Lot of moral/character issues at the time. Might still be with girlfriend as his wife now. Can't remember how that went. Got throat cancer. Saw the angel I guess. Cleaned his act up, and supposedly living well now.

As far as all the other stuff pointed out, his personality at the time lends alot of credibility to there being a fair amount of truth to it. Likely not all, but a good bit. From a couple posts above of people that live in the area in GA, he seems to have left all that behind. I don't live in GA now, so I can just accept what seems to be his rep now. If he has actually left the past behind, good testament for someone that a person can change if they wish.

Meh....you say moral turpitude.....I say it's just Alabama.

What a cluster**** on the last drive in the championship game. Propst's team gave up 35 yards in penalties in the last 15 seconds to let N Gwinnett get in field goal range to kick the game winner with no time left.

Cluster for sure. Friday Night Lights are the best. Kicker redeemed himself. JJ is a stud for sure. Like the T towel. Hope we pull him in.

His team just blew a state championship -

Colquitt scored with :49 to go to take a 17-16 lead.

They then committed 4 defensive penalties (defensive holding, 12 men on the field, 12 men on the field, pass interference) and gave up a 38 yard field goal with :00 left

Lost GA AAAAAAA Championship 19-17 to North Gwinnett.

Buyer beware. Based upon everything I've heard about the guy from living a few counties away in S. GA for quite a while, he's shady...someone will have to keep him on a short leash from a PR/NCAA/other standpoint, as bamawriter alluded to in his post.

No big deal. We will let Phil take care of it. I am sure he can handle that when he isn't leaping tall buildings in a single bound.

Well if we do hire him, in order to take JJ Peterson as a recruit, we will have to hire him as an on-field coach. NCCA bylaw 11.4.3 prohibits a HS coach associated with a recruit taking a job as a member of the support or strength and conditioning staff at the school the recruit attends.

I do not know if he's proven or good enough to be an on-field coach. Pruitt would have to have a lot of faith in him. But I know he came up through the HS ranks with Propst and that may go a long with him.
