I finally went back and watched the game on DVR last night. You miss a lot from the stands due to several reasons: distance from field, alcohol consumed, environment (you're looking at the entire scene vs. what TV focusses on).
So after seeing it on TV, if I had $5 for every time Herbstreit said, "VT is rushing 3 and dropping 8..." I'd be loaded.
Coaches say the biggest improvement comes from week 1 to week 2. I hope our best improvement has yet to come.
Not trying to beat a dead horse but man he said that a lot Sat. night.
Like I said after ASU, this is the model everyone will use until Dobbs proves he can beat teams with his arm. The ridiculous fact that both opponents still got a pass rush with 3 against UT's original starting OL is just a bonus.
If a team rushes 3 and gets pressure you will be limited on offense. There is no coaching scheme to solve this problem. The linemen must block, no alternative. If they do solve the problem we will be back to scoring 40 plus without the other team self destructing. Just keep switching them around coach!
That's the catch-22. If teams can get pressure with only 3 upfront, it makes it that much more difficult to complete passes when it's 8 on 5.
I hope they can get in some sort of rhythm on Sat.
Needs to get out of the pocket to put pressure on the zone, WRs can get lost once a QB get out on the perimeter.
Simply that VT was able to have a great amount of success vs our OL by only rushing 3. This was still a ballgame with 10 minutes to go when the VT player fumbled the punt which led to the TD that put VT away.
Just my take after watching it on TV. I now see the outrage from a lot on here...considering Herbie was constantly pointing it out.
Don't know what game you were watching..
But when the clock hit 0 at the end of the first quarter..VT was done.
From that point until first string came out of the game..our defense shut them down, and our offense walked all over them..
Can you say 45-3 run?
It's called...OWNED

You never know. Anything is possible.
I was actually talking about this in a post in a thread knocking Dobbs as a QB. There is no QB on the history of the game that can throw well against a 3 man rush thats getting consistent penetration. The reason people like Peyton and Brady killed you is when teams blitzed extra people they didn't have enough people to cover guys on hot routes. They got blitzed with 5-6 man rushes not 3. Dobbs has not proven he is an accurate passer but at the same time because of circumstances he hasn't had a real chance his whole career.I finally went back and watched the game on DVR last night.
