"Running up the score"

If they don't want us to return a pick at that point in the why are they throwing the ball and trying to score? Plus diving at a dudes knees that's not even the one returning the pick.

With all the blow outs over the past few games we get the participation ribbon announcers. Don't rain on my parade. GBO!

One of the announcers today went well out of his way to say he didn't agree with Tennessee throwing the ball around and running up the score with the game in hand (I think there was about 3-5 min left in the 4th).

I'm sorry but Dormady busts his ass way too hard in practice to come in when the game is over and hand it off 3 times. Also, the same announcer made the comment "why don't you work the back ups in earlier in the game (before its essentially over)." Well, dumb*** you answered your own question. The game isn't over and we need our best players on the field to ensure we win. The other announcer totally got this concept and I really think I could hear him making a "pffft (can you believe this guy)" type sound under his breath while the other idiot was blabbing.

Rant over.
Actually he just asked the other guy what he thought about Tennessee still throwing the ball around this late. The other guy gave a very good answer.

But imo, Our backups needed the game reps. It's the opponents job to prevent us from scoring. And why is it cclassy to stop scoring anyway? Even when the game is out of hand, I don't think you should show mercy to your opponent. Sore losers made that up imo lol

Well, they were ranked in the top 15 teams in the country - it's not like we were running it up on Vandy - oh wait, they were exactly like Vandy - but ranked really high.

Yeah, one of the broadcaster's was saying, it was nw's job to stop us. And, if you don't want one run back on an int. Quit throwing the ball. Just run the time out.

Loved it! Tired of this conservative bull when we get a lead. Fight until the clock hits zero. If they have a problem with getting their butts kicked, they should do something about it. Football is about imposing your will on the opponent. Punish them until they give up. Make them regret ever stepping on the same field.

The pick six butt hurt is self imposed.

They chose to put the ball in the air. It resulted in a pick. In the hands of the nation's best kick off returner. He then did what his instincts told him to and took it to the house.

Don't b***h about us scoring when their scoring attempt goes boom and implodes on them. Running up the score has no relevant context in the discussion of that particular play.

That announcers comments were just laughable. We had in the back ups running vanilla offense. It's not like we were airing the ball out, mixing in trick plays, or running the hurry up. It's not our fault NW couldn't stop or backups in said vanilla offense. I didn't see him complaining when NW was trying everything in it's power to score a garbage TD. The kids that don't get to play much wanted to make some plays in the bowl game. I don't blame either team for running their offense with the 2's\3's in garbage time.

I guess the picture of Fitzgerald leading them in a chant at the start of the 4th was Northwestern reciting the Little League handbook

We really didn't try to run up the score Northwestern was just so bad we couldn't help it. Dormady threw for 28 yards in the 4th quarter. We got 2 ints in the 4th quarter one deep in their territory and another for a TD. It would have been crazy (to me at least) for Berry to slide down in that situation.

When the other team quits trying to score, then we should quit too. I just haven't seen many games when the team getting blown out takes a knee in victory formation.:eek:lol::lolabove:

When that guy made the comment about "If you want to get your back-ups in to get some work and throw the ball around, then put them in when the game is meaningful", I said out loud..."What an idiot". I was seriously wondering how somebody that stupid, ever got a job as an announcer.

While I think Dormady is a quality back-up QB, the announcer's comment was still ridiculous. You don't bring a guy in off the bench in a game where the score is close, just to get him some throws. He might turn the ball over, and change the outcome of the game. Have no idea what that announcer was thinking.

Basically, the only time the back-up gets in, barring an injury to the starter or a pattern of bad performances by the starter, is when the game is in hand. So, why should they not get the chance to show what they can do? They really don't get any other chance to do so.

Who was that announcer, anyway?

Announcers were Mark Jones and Rod Gilmore. Not sure which one was so adamant about kneeling down every play. The did not agree on how to use the backups though.

Ole Musburger and palmer were talking about Iowa fans booing Stanford for scoring. They both said get over it and play football! Palmer said....I played for Steve Spurrier... Classic!

I went back to the tape and listened to his words...

"IF they knock you down two times (raises 2 fingers in the air)... get up! If they knock you down three times (holds 3 fingers up), get up! If the continue to knock you down after that, hell, tap out men (pounds his heart several times)... they want it more than us.

I think he meant we should've put the 5th string in during the 2nd quarter. That team wasn't going to beat anyone we put out there today. The big 10 sux!

Three of their top 4 teams got throttled!

Rod Gilmore.. the shorter older announcer was the one complaining about running up the score and he did it twice.

If NU is gonna go out there throwing passes trying to score it serves them right to have it returned for a pick 6.

That drive was annoying me. Glad it ended the way it did. Smart aleks trying to make the score closer. That's what they get. Oh..but our guy is supposed to just lay down? Forget that noize.

Eat it Fitzpatrick.
