Why not use him like Florida does Pitts? Very similar build and skill set.
Pitts is a more natural receiver.
He's actually a more natural receiver than a lot of starting WRs.

If Beckwith were at Florida, they probably do use him in a similar way in addition to giving him carries.
If he were at Bama, he would be a tailback just like at UT, and Sarkesian would get every once of talent out of him.
If he were at UK, he'd be the starting QB and have 100 yards rushing a game.
LSU probably at WDE...

I wonder if Chaney knows how to use him

Blame the fans.

Not the guy making 3.8 million a year...

Got it.

Get off of it. He did not blame the fans for anything just shared an observation that some fans are malcontents regardless of who is the coach. It is entirely possible that the fans he is alluding to are way worse fans than Pruitt is as a coach. Different responsibilities and skill sets required. It is entirely possible the program would be better served if both were no longer associated with the program. Those that do not recognize their own potential for that possibility are fooling themselves. Humility is a terrible thing to waste.

All you negative fans are broken records too no matter who is the coach
Being positive will only get you so far. Never considered myself as a negitive fan I still make the 430 mile trip down for the last 10 years. But sometimes you have to address the problem. Negitive, positive or indifferent. Its reality.

Folks on all the boards are snipping at each other because there is little hope to improve with the current leadership, but people love to talk football regardless. Football just isn't fun to talk about when 99% of us know that we have very little chance of being a de e t team moving forward and little to no hope of developing players or putting them in positions for them to succeed at at high level. Maybe ONE day we can get back to the "wait 'till next year" posts and get EXCITED about returning players, etc.

Not if we win or at least given a little hope. I was encouraged coming in to the season and even predicted 7/8 wins. However that was on the premise that we would have a new Qb early in the season and that the rest of the position groups would progress. It didn’t come close to happening. A total failure of the HC and entire coaching staff. Go Volpreach to someone else, we are going to call it like we see it.

I call it 3-7 for 2020.
Some can call it something else, but it will answer to nothing else.

I can't wait til someone asks Pruitt a question and starts it off with "coach, I'm not sure how much you know about football..."

We are 66-69 in the last 10 seasons with 6 losing seasons. Im glad you proved his point. Congrats!

What does that have to do with malcontents being obnoxious when it is not required to address the issues at hand? Nobody is happy or justifying our status in the college football world. Those that attack anyone who does not buy into their favorite candidate as a replacement or to disparage our admin for not firing the current guy without an acceptable and affordable candidate being identified are the subjects at hand.

It has to do with you saying some people Will never be happy with whoever the coach is. Id say the people have a right to be upset with the coaches with 6 losing seasons in 10 years.

No problem with being upset, it is the methodology used publicly to share those feelings that I question. Being upset, unhappy, disgruntled, or plain old mad does not justify LOTS of the classless acts we experience on these boards. State your case. Plenty of facts to share and your analysis of those facts are fair game. Derogatory nicknames? Not for me.

This thread has a real nice subject that would be interesting to discuss, were it not for the fact that the underperforming head football coach is living rent free in many of your minds.
We had to put up w this with JG all year, now it's Pruitt. Is it possible to stick to the subject around here? Asking for a friend.

I hear you and I have applied my own hindsight to the season and it is pretty easy to see that the series of pick 6's by JG had a devastating impact. I went through the schedule and can see why he would not have put his rookie out there in those early stretches of games and don't think that JT had evidenced in practice some constraint on trusting his arm that showed up later. Bottom line I think Coach kept throwing JG out there to protect HB from the kind of physical abuse JG has had to deal with for several years. I have tried to go back and figure out how many times I cringed for hits on JG. Doubt HB is as tough and fear that GA KY Bama stretch might have had him leave the field on a stretcher. Now once we get to AU Arky it appears in my same hindsight a good time to make the moves. Originally Vandy was next. Even FL down the schedule was not as daunting physically on defense. They would have had considerable experience by TAM. I am guessing he knows HB can be here for four more years IF HE LIKES and played the safe card. I don't believe he thought JG was headed for the Heisman at any time during the season. My theory anyway.

Was he just crazy or did he in fact save HB or Shrout from serious physical or psychological harm? Only the Shadow knows.... Could we have beaten KY without that start? Like to know. Would AU and Arky go differently? Fair questions.. Would we do any better than moral victories of smaller margins with Bama, GA, FL and TAM? Does it really matter?

On the other hand had HB gone down to serious injury early they would call for his head for sacrificing the kids future to cover his todays problems. You can bet on it. We fans are very versatile. Bottom line a crappy season and we are discussing his job and it may be over for him, or he may be saved by the cost of change AT THIS TIME. Gotta pay the bills for every sport over there when the only real money maker was gutted by COVID. Are some of the rich guys locked on a single alternate and doubly motivated? We should know for sure soon.

If they have a plan I am good with it. Hope it is really a low risk type. If we have to defer due to circumstances, he pulls of a miracle or we make a change with lessor buyouts, more revenue and hopefully some no-brainer homerun candidates of which I see none this year. Maybe they have a surprise guy hidden away for this year or next. Or maybe we get lucky like with Barnes. We are due a break.

There indeed seems to be a glut of running backs for next year. Some will likely depart, and others will choose to ride the pine a little more than they deserve. Hopefully anyway, it's a good problem to have.

One school of thought in building baseball rosters is take the best athletes you can, and assume those that don't cut it can slide "down" the defensive spectrum. Seems to me Pruit subscribes to this, at least to some degree. He rarely lands 4-star DB specialists, and instead seem to feel he can convert others to fill in there.

Now the question is, can he train some to learn new positions, at an SEC level, if and when they don't stick? This is where I am skeptical about hiring good recruiters over good position coaches. Why not hire the best teachers you can, and then let a charismatic non-coach go out and sell these talent developers to the recruit? Let an ex-linebacker coach the LBs, and free Nieds - who is unquestionably a star recruiter - to go out and tell everyone about how great the player development is becoming.

My thoughts about the depth chart for next year, roughly in descending order:

Feature Back
Eric Gray
Evans or Chandler (if he returns)

3rd down specialists / projects
Brown
Whitehead (I think he will be moved; health seems an issue too)
Hodge
Crouch (not forgotten; will move up if none of the 3 above pan out)

Change of pace backs
Jabari Small (he has looked really good to me)
Dee Beckwith (I think he will be moved)
Wright

Leaves us with predictd stable of Gray, Evans, Brown, Hodge, Small, and Wright. Plus Chandler if he chooses. That's a good mix.
