Rumors swirling about QB competition

There are rumors going around that the QB competition is open again. Others are saying that if Stephens performs in practice, he'll start saturday.

Makes complete sense. If we have to remain as limited as we were Saturday, what difference does it make who is under center. Hell, I'd consider a runner.

Stephens will start Saturday if this is true.

I've thought that as well. As much as were getting from Crompton i'd trade him for a set of legs.

why would it be highly doubtful? 7 picks in 3 games, everyone knows its time they at least make a competition out of it.

I'm telling you guys, if we have a QB competition right now between two quarterbacks, it's because we have zero quarterbacks.

If Stephens wins this, and even if he lights up Ohio it's pretty delusional to expect him to look any less lost against SEC competition in a few weeks.

Couple pretty reliable posters on the other board. It also makes logical sense. If Kiffin wants to keep the O-line, RBs, and WRs on board, he needs to at least show them that he's trying to give them a chance to be successful.

Thanks...guess we will find out later today. I thought I heard Kiffin say on his show that JC was the starter and that Ohio was an important game for him. That is the only reason I doubt this rumor.

Kiffin certainly gave an implication that if Crompton doesn't step it up then Stephens will get a chance. At least, that's what I got out of it.

While I respect CLK with sticking with and up for his QB, Ive said in private many times that if I were CLK, Id scrap Crompton and put in NS. Crompton is a lost cause and him being in there this year doesnt increase your chances of winning the game. Put in Nick and let him get more game experiance cause hes the starting QB next year. Whats the point of continuing to let JC "play" and having to limit your gameplan? (which also hurts you in your prep of other returning players)

Sorry to interrupt, but isn't Jones the only "other" with any decent QB experience? Don't know if that kind of decision-making would be an improvement. Did I just type that?

I don't see why not. Crompton did not perform well on Saturday. When he was asked to make down field throws, he did not execute, and the intentional grounding that was not called was also an error. If we don't get better at that position we will lose more games and potentially affect the morale of the team at large.

be careful what you wish for...


If Stephens is the better guy for the job then I am all for it. The fact that he has not won the job with our horrible qb play over the past two years makes me think it would not be an upgrade.
