Rumors Flying Around Tonight

I don't know the answer, but he did not try to do it. Just transferred to lower division and played. I assume he thought that if the coach didn't want him and he did refuse and won the case that he would just ride the bench.

Didn’t all P5 schools go to 4 yr deals just a couple yrs ago? I’m pretty sure they did. Anyway a kid can get buried on scout team which in humiliation if you’re an upperclassman

There was a movie with Robby Benson many years ago in which he was a scholarship basketball player and the coach tried to get him to renounce his scholarship. The character refused and the coach made his life difficult for the rest of the year including having football players participate in basketball practices to rough up the Benson character. I know this is fiction but does the scholarship player have any rights to refuse his scholarship being taken away ?

Schollys are pretty much year to year. I have a personal friend who had a bad junior year as a collegiate baseball player who played his senior year on half scholarship due to the coach's discipline and made All American. Different coach's and institutions handle things differently in this area.

At least he could still get his education paid for. If he is put on the scout team then he likely is not a good player anyway.

How many reasons you want? For one, it takes two years for ANY system to take hold. Year two for any HC is considered the magical year, I can give you 20 names plus, that is because the system is in place and clicks, first year, Everyone is learning, year two, you can execute and play much faster and it becomes instinctive, if you fire a coordinator after one year, you are throwing out the baby with the dirty water, TN will have to start over again. Two, recruiting, still some big fish that Helton was very involved with, including 2 5-star linemen. Three, word gets around, high profile coordinators will be hesitant to come to Tn knowing they don’t have the normal time to implement their system (takes two years), want me to name more reasons?
Systems can be learned in a week or less. The posters here put too much emphasis on systems. It's a football 101.
I know.

Is a university allowed to revoke a scholarship when the student has done nothing wrong (besides play like crap)?

To my understanding, no they can't, but things have changed through the years. Scholarships used to be yearly, but that has changed in some, if not all cases, I don't follow that closely enough to know completely. However, if it can't be revoked as I believe, that scholarship doesn't guarantee a spot on the team, nor any of the other benefits a team member receives. He'd simply be on scholarship on campus where every one knows his status. Surely not a great place to be. So besides being a pariah, any playing opportunities would be wasted and such. Usually in the past, talented guys get their own chances and those of lesser talent have been helped in finding other lower level institutions who would take them in.

‘‘Tis the season for rumors. Can’t wait. We don’t play in postseason anymore so this is what we get to look forward to each year.

From Source: Jeremy Pruitt expected to make a coordinator change - FootballScoop

Sources tell FootballScoop that Jeremy Pruitt is planning to make a change at offensive coordinator.
Pruitt hired Tyson Helton to be the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in Knoxville after he previously served as the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator for his brother, Clay, at USC. Helton had been extremely successful as offensive coordinator at Western Kentucky prior to joining Clay’s staff at USC.
However, the Vols offense has had their share of struggles this season.
That was on full display earlier tonight in a 38-13 loss to Vanderbilt in a deciding game that determined bowl eligibility for either Tennessee or the Commodores.
After 11 games played, Tennessee ranks 107th in scoring offense with just under 24 points per game, 96th in passing offense, and 111th in rushing offense. Their highest scoring night offensively against FBS competition came against Auburn back in mid-October where they scored 30 points. They also scored put up 59 in week two against FCS East Tennessee State. The lid seemed to stick at 24 points, as the Vols failed to eclipse that mark in 10 of their 12 games.

Heading into year two, it will be interesting to see who Pruitt hands the keys of his offense to.

The OL can help it. They r just not that good but we got help coming. Recruit recruit recruiting is the key now. ............. .

The AD needs to issue a statement in the morning clarifying who will be fired and retained -- too many rumors going around
