Rumor That UNC Will Force Vols

Not true. They can either accept the buyout or get nothing.

Those are the only options. The NCAA has not certified the 2011 schedule for either team, and they can only force you to forfeit games on a certified schedule. UNC will not be on the schedule we have certified next spring.

do we not have a contract?

I hope this is true. I really do.

But, it is hard to believe that a buyout clause was not in the original contract. If there was not one, all I can do is SMH.

Shame Mike Hamilton?

I disagreed with the decision. If we want to make a "BCS" friendly schedule, it will have to wait for the next decade.

I still don't understand why we would duck NC. It's freaking NC for pete's sake! Their defense is good, maybe great....this year....next year they lose their best guys to the NFL, and next year our OL and QB, arguably are biggest question marks of this season, will be much, MUCH, better. I don't get it...maybe I should read through the other threads on this subject to find out if there's good reasoning. On second thought, I think I'll pass. Anyone got the gist of it?

This is what I have been saying. I was thinking they are going to lose several guys after this year at key positions. I would think they would be in rebuild mode. This definitely looks bad for us to pull out of this game.

Unless UNC is stupid, they'll take the buyout and run. This game is NOT a likely win for them and never was. This is and always has been about the rest of the schedule.

The world sees it that way based on our own stupidity.

You've got to take of the shades for this one SJT.

with as much hype as there would be surrounding the game after all of this, I think they would take their chances at home.

UNC hasn't won more than 8 games in a year since 97 (IN THE ACC WHILE THE ACC WAS AT ONE OF ITS LOWEST POINTS EVER). Even with Butch Davis and the talent he's brought, they've failed to turn the corner. It IS a basketball school and is likely to remain one.

What they do have is enough talent to force UT to play their starters all game and contribute more to cummulative injuries.

My POV is this game would be a likely win for UT that could cost them 2 or even 3 wins toward the end of the season due to injuries to a thin depth chart.

These are reasons to play the game as it was scheduled.

You can't back down from a fight and then say the other guy is a wimp.

to play the game or forfeit. Word is that they will reject the buy-out. I have no idea if there is any validity whatsoever.

I doubt that's accurate. Most contracts (Football and nonfootball) have buyout clauses written into them for protection purposes. I bet this started from a hopeful fan somewhere.

No shades involved. UNC has yet to prove they've turned the corner with Davis. It isn't that I think UT is great right now... I just see nothing that convinces me that UNC is good.

Exactly! So this is an opportunity to turn a corner for them. I can see why they would take their chances.

Smart move on UNC's part.

It makes us look both cowardly and stupid.

how?

I don't see the sports media all over this like "Tennessee turns down USC"...I doubt most people even know about it (or that UT was even playing UNC in 2011)
