Robert M. Widney convinced benefactors and fellow founders Ozro Childs, John Gately Downey and Isaias W. Hellman to help establish the*University of Southern California*(USC), which first opened in 1880. Far more recently, in 1997, the Los Angeles-based universitys school of business was renamed in honor of former student and businessman Gordon S. Marshall, who had made a $35 million donation. Then in 1999 the universitys school of medicine was rechristened in honor of the W.M. Keck Foundations record-breaking $110 million contribution. USCs school of engineering was rechristened in 2004 after philanthropist Andrew Viterbi and his wife Erna bestowed a sizable $52 million. And in 2011 the universitys school of public policy was renamed after the Price Family Charitable Fund donated $50 million. In 2013 USCs endowment was valued at $3.868 billion.
What's equally impressive is Vanderbilt is right behind them. And the Texas school SYSTEM does have more money but it's multiple university's where as USC is one institution.
