Rumor on TOS that Wilcox is leaving.

If Wilcox, does leave, you make Peter Sirmon the DC. He's ready for the job and it's responsibility. Sirmon is going to be a head coach sooner than later.

This is Sirmons first year as a position coach. He was a GA prior.

He's not ready or qualified yet.

First of all let me preface this by saying I don't believe Wilcox is leaving. He's currently recruiting for us. Doesn't guarantee he isn't leaving, though.

Best reasoning I've heard for Wilcox to be let go (sports talk radio)..... we took him as a young DC because of what he did at Boise State. Boise State played weak competition yet in their few big time games... on the big stages under Wilcox... they did play very solid D.

The kicker? They're still doing that. The did it to UGA recently. They're still winning and playing the same defense. So, was it really Wilcox making them look good all along?

(How do you let Kentucky beat you with a WR at QB and only running wildcat? Why were we playing cover 2? At all???)

Really, you think we lost to Kentucky because we were playing cover 2. I yelled a couple times at the the tv for everybody to be in the box, but come on man we scored 7 points. We should be Kentucky every year when they score 10 or less.

Something to consider... FBS rank total defense 28th, passing defense 12th, rush defense 70th, scoring defense 38th...

Not steller numbers but all things considered not to bad... I was surprised at the rank in passing defense and a little surprised at the total defense rank...

Keep in mind the defense WILL GET BETTER if we retain Wilcox.. A couple of assistants definately need to go but Wilcox is NOT one of them..

Again, it's just 12th in total yardage; it's 49th in opponent passing efficiency, 57th in yards per attempt (which figures in completion percentage and yards per completion), tied for 77th in interceptions, 104th in sacks. 12th least passing attempts against, because teams we played either had no passing game or didn't need to pass very much, which accounts for the lack of yardage.

I hope they do every thing they can to keep Wilcox he will be one of the coaching 'greats' before long!

Guys, the NFL doesn't think much of our best players when we have rotten seasons (except Eric Berry). When we have good seasons, we usually see a handful go in the first 3-4 rds. When we have down seasons, we're lucky to see even one make it.

Coaches are viewed in a similar light. Not too many teams are going to come knocking on anyone's door with this staff. That's also why it will be hard to get a quality assistant coach, unless Dooley is replaced. He's basically a lame duck HC.

Jeff Fisher got caught in this predicament last year, and stepped down. He had only one year left on his contract and Bud would not give him an extension. Coaches were leaving, and there was NO chance at finding a quality replacement for a coach on a bad team, on the hot seat with only one year left.

The first paragraph has me confused. Do you think the NFL doesn't like our players when we have bad seasons because of any other reason than they suck? If we have players the NFL likes then we wouldn't suck but would be like we were ten years ago.

The NFL scouts and GM's tend to devalue good/great players on teams that have less than stellar seasons.
Case in point, Arian Foster was graded as high as a 2nd Rd pick, following his Junior year. I think we had a good year then, and perhaps beat Wisconsin in a bowl (if memory serves me right).

He opted to stay. Cutcliffe bailed on us, and under a new OC, we sucked something awful. Arian Foster didn't even get drafted, as a result. We now all see how foolish the GM's and Scouts were for underestimating Foster. Because our team sucked, all of a sudden they assume he too, sucked.

I'm not saying that bad teams will have as many NFL ready players, just that those that are, don't get proper recognition because of their team's record.

Therefore, because we have had 2 losing seasons back to back, no matter what WE think of Wilcox, everyone outside of Volnation will assume Wilcox too, sucks.

Foster himself played poorly that season. I am just saying if we have NFL quality players we won't have bad seasons. I hope you are right abut Wilcox because I would like to see him stay here a while.

If he is offered a HC job he should leave. As should L. Thompson. I don't know how you feel, but I wasn't exactly blown away by our defensive scheme this year. Sometimes change is a good thing.

I wasn't impressed either. Consistently surrendered yards on runs to the edge and lots of yards playing soft zone. He isn't the guru he was hyped to be but there were periods when the defense didn't look half bad even against superior talent. I do think lif CDD loses Wilcox a good replacement will be hard to find given CDD's shaky status. Lose to Kentucky and everything changes for the worse. Lets see if CDD can pull off a miracle next season if he surviives that long and doesn't lose his best recruits.

from what im hearing, ucla coaching job will be open after the game this weekend. peterson will not agree on anything til the job is vacant, also he will not leave til after his bowl game. but things do change, if enough money is tossed his way im sure he could have a change of heart.

I hope we toss some money
