The OL coach is a great recruiter, and may be a better all around coach. Sal is our unproven, but my fav of them all. I'm so pumped over his hiring I could pick a car up and throw it. Dooley might just prove me wrong and be here a while.

I know in the coaching sports world it's a what have you done lately type thing, but to truly know if he is the answer he needs to 2 more years. But if he doesn't show improvement from top to bottom within the two years then it's time to make a change.

I totally agree with you. 2 yrs is a realistic time frame. This yrs injuries really set him/us back, but in an odd way it really showed us a lot about what he truly had to deal with.

wouldnt it make more sense for sunseri or shannon to be our dc and steele be an assistant coach since he is the least wanted and currently out of a job? im not saying its likely at all but maybe more so than your theory.

Why would you pay someone who has never been a DC at this level before, that kind of cash? I don't care if he was a lb coach from the Green Bay Packers. That's elite DC money. Don't even think Chavis is making that much.
I don't see $700k+ for an Outside Linebackers coach, promoted to DC (over Lance Thompson at that).

Odd question...is the OP actually Heath Shuler? Or is it a fan of him? If it's not him, that's kind of weird he would create a user name identical to Heath's name. TIA

Just curious, I know it's a stupid question, but my curiosity has gotten to me. Can he "up his sons allowence" if he wanted him to come to UT, is that an NCAA violation? lol. He is gonna be making more money so the son will probably want whats best for his family... I know i'm gonna get ripped for the question just curious.

If Saban pulls Vinnie's scholly, without limits, Vinnie can come to UT and play next fall and be under scholly. That's just my simple understanding of it.

U know what's weirder? There's a strange poster on here that uses the name(first and last) of his friends young son as his screen name.. If he was serious about that, it really weirds me out..

While some combination of what you're suggesting might sound nice in theory, I just can't see it happening.

First, if reports are correct, Shannon wants $1MM or more in salary. In 2010, only 1 DC in the country made over $1MM (MK, @ $2MM). Maybe, MAYBE, 1 or 2 others reached that level in 2011 but I don't think so. Is Shannon worth THAT much coming off of a mediocre run at UM?

Second, I seriously doubt we are going to pay a LB or DL coach $700K when only a very few DC's make that much. Add to that CLT's $400K-$500K (with raise), Steele at what? $300K if he's desperate for work? More if he's not. Green may come as a position coach but I'm sure he would need a raise for that to work if giving up the DC title. I believe he made just under $200K last year so it would probably take north of $250K.

Just don't see it happening.
