Rumor Going Around That

I don't understand the mentality of waiting until after NSD

If you leave right before NSD, you're putting the university in a tough spot (see - Kiffin to USC)

But if you leave right after NSD, you're putting the players in an even worse spot (both kids that signed at your old school thinking you'd be there and kids that didn't sign at your new school not known you'd be there)

As much as it sucks to deal with coaching turnover in the period leading up to NSD - as we know first hand - universities can recover and still put together a decent class. Screwing the kids seems worse to me.

If Chaney doesn't like what he sees during practice, surely he'll give some input that will improve the line. I'm excited to see Chaney's offense. I thought he should have been calling plays over Kiffin anyways.

If this happens, I could see Chaney coaching QB's.

Maybe he concentrates a little more on the passing game. But remember we had Mitch Browning last year to help Cregg out on the OL and it worked well. So, I think we'd want to keep two coaches for the OL.

If this coach was coming to UT it makes no sense to wait. If he was coming, it would be his future responsiblity to make the UT line as good as it could be. Thus, if he had already decided he was coming, it would be in his best interest to go out and try to better UT's line before NSD to make is job easier.

+1 I agree, I think it's worse for the young athletes if you wait until they are locked in to leave. Hammy took a lot of criticism from the local media on his steadfast position that those who enrolled early would not be given a waiver after Lame left. IMHO, I think it is better to just move on to the next job, but neither move is particularly fair to either the school or the young men. No matter what this close to signing day, someone loses.

I don't understand. Why is he waiting? To help his former team? Why wouldn't he come now and help his chances at success with UT. I have heard the same speculation on here about Kevin Steele.

IF he is coming to Tennessee and it's a done deal that hasn't been made public, it won't affect recruiting. Dooley can let Stone, Robinson, Green etc. know he will be the offensive line coach. The recruits knowing who their coach will be is what's important. Who cares if we don't know. We're not being recruited.

it would affect UGA's recruiting, it would be the same douche move LK pulled

Just a thought but since there is a growing trend to wait until after NSD to sign (Brown, Oku, etc.) what would keep players like Rogers, who is also hearing rumors like this, to just wait and let the dust settle? I think we would hold a spot for him...

This would seem to push Hinshaw to RB and Chaney to QB. I dont see how we have the flexibilty to hire an OL and a RB coach. We would be left thin on the defensive side.

If any of these coaches had been named and they were telling recruits who their position coaches would be, then something would have leaked out by now.

Yeah, I'm not sure about this, it kinda means our DC also needs to coach DL. Unless CLT moves there.

Agreed, he was in Da'Rick's living room with CMR on Tuesday. Plus, it is well known that DD and Searles are good friends.

If Searles was with CMR in DR's living room after taking the UT job, thats a huge conflict of interests whether CMR knows it or not.

If thats true, I call BS on this rumor.

Nance said Hinshaw was going to be QB coach in the article about his commitment to UT. Thus, perhaps Chaney will coach OL (which is what he coached in NFL).

You are allowed 10 Coaches:
HC-Dooley
OC/QB-Chaney
OL-Searls possibly
RB-Hinshaw
WR-Baggett
ST/TE-Russell
DC-???too many names to list
DL-Smith possibly
LB-Thompson
DB-Russell
