Rumor....Auburn's possible interest in Vols WR Coach David Johnson

Based on What? Who has Johnson developed that is better than any of the multiple receivers Tee put in the league from USC?

How may first round draft picks has Johnson developed?

This is just crazy talk!!!
Tee wasn't very successful at USC as a coach, especially OC. Recruiter, yes. But Vols have needed coaches like DJ who can motivate & develop talent. Be nice to have both, but I much prefer Coach Johnson.

I would like to see us keep Johnson on staff, but am hurting to tell anyone where Tee will fit. Since we seem set on keeping Will Friend, the next one on my list would probably be Weinke, stemming off how the only IMG recruit we got this time around was originally from Seymour and wanted to come home. But then who do you make the RB coach and who coaches WR?

Is Pruitt likely to value recruiting over coaching ability? He feels like 70/30 recruiting to me. Could either work or really kill you on game day.

Though I imagine Tee is good in both areas

You win in this league with dudes. Yes, development is important and Tee KNOWS how to develop WR's. But he also comes with the added bonus of being an elite recruiter. Johnson is not. It's that simple. Pruitt is looking to upgrade his staff with great recruiters. I have a feeling Johnson won't be the only one to leave.

Wrong, Tee was very successful as coach at USC that's why he was promoted to OC, then he had a freshman QB this past year with a young team and was one of the escape goats for helton. I don't know many people that get promoted for doing a bad job, so sorry your incorrect.

Tee is now on staff but still being paid by USC. Pruitt does not have to make a move. He now has a piece of the puzzle to replace if someone leaves.

YAC is a very good WR coach and the kids really love him so I'd hate to lose him.

Nobody knows for a fact if Tee will recruit well for Tennessee because USC basically recruits well for itself.

It's not my call or I'd keep YAC coaching our WRs but it's Pruitts job on the line and his call to make.

I'll aways support my Vols no matter what!

Kiffin hired Martin away from Kentucky BC of what he thought of him as a coach and a recruiter.

We recruit well ourselves. We are ranked in the top 20 of recruiting classes with a 5-7 record. #facts

Tee was 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 11th and 17th in recruiter rankings from 2014-2018. I think he’ll do fine here

Hope you're right but have doubts. We shall see.

So what coach is on the chopping block? My vote goes for Weinke. Let Tee coach the WRs and move coach Johnson to RBs.

Time will tell on if Tee can take guys that aren't 5*, and develop them. USC has been able to pull talent, especially at skill positions. Guys like that do not take a lot of work to develop (they are 5* because they have already been developed). That has been the selling point on Johnson; he had taken the "diamond in the rough" guys and turned them into NFL players. Specifically you can look at Anthony Miller who went from a Walk-on to 2nd round draft pick.
I would like to keep him, but if Johnson has been shopping his name, then it looks like it is best to move on.

I prefer it to be Weinke rather than David Johnson. Nothing against Weinke; and would suck to lose a former Heisman Trophy winning QB, but I really don't want to lose Johnson.

I'd put Tee on RBs and keep Johnson at WR.
