Hate to bring up this subject, but......

A buddy of mine is an Irish fan and states that a loud minority of their fan base is yelling for the sacking of Brian Kelley. Looks like our fan base doesn't hold a patent on irrational behavior.

Thoughts?

There are people all over the land that do not understand that it takes time to rebuild a program. Instant gratification is all the want.

Is this stemming from the student death?

bammers wanted Gene Stallings fired in '95, some gator fans think urbie is finished because of this year.

Big programs want to win, period.

According to my friend, again; he's on the Irish message boards frequently and said there was clamouring after the Michigan loss, and has got really loud after the Navy loss this last weekend.

Sounded kinda familiar to me.

Well, now we know that we're not the only fanbase prone to blind desires for annual coaching changes. It's a real shame. When will people learn that instant gratification (or the desire thereof) is like scoring a touchdown in a basketball game and it creates more problems than solutions?

I heard Lou Holtz speak in 1987 before his first season at Notre Dame and he made the joke that the fans there were great and told him they'd be easily satisfied if Notre Dame went 12-0. I guess that's why these coaches get the big bucks.

There were many on this board wanting UT to hire Kelley. Do they still feel that way? Instant gratification? Immaturity? Emotional vs rational thought? All apply here and at ND as well as gatorland.

Wow that would be a bigger mistake than UT canning Dooley after this year. Kelley is going to bring ND back. But if he can't...I'm not sure anyone can.

the rumblings have been there, obviously because it's a passionate fan base but a bad year, but i think these new rumblings today have a lot to do with the student death. some people are saying it was kelly that made him go up on the lift and film. if so, dang, i dont know what to say....

My whole take to the 'fire Dooley' folks (and I know a few at work) is to ask them if they feel a highly rated recruit would feel good coming to a TENN program that has had 4 COACHES IN 4 YEARS! To me the idea is ludicrous. Now, if in 3 years we're not seeing any head way, I'm all for change, but one thing I'll promise is that his successor would be building from a much stronger base than he (Dooley) walked into 10 months ago.

Very good point/perspective. :good!:

Could you expound upon the analogy you provided, where instant gratification was likened to scoring a TD in basketball?
