Rucker: Reality-check yourself after Vols' rough opener

Slow learner, I see.

I understand what it is going to take to be great and we are not there. Scheme changes, bad roster, broken mentally, and a tough schedule. Game was not good but saw them playing a lot of their guys they recruited who are young. They made mistakes but if they learn from them and grow from it, they will get better. From guys like Flowers, I saw mistakes but better tackling. A. Taylor played well. Banks ran tough though game didn’t matter. Calvin played well. Saw our O and G move the ball. Overall, team did not quit but see that S and C is going to take more than a few months to get us physically to where we need to be. Thought we should win 7 because almost did with close losses we had last year. But with all the changes, six should happen but will be tough. Saw some things the coaches did yesterday and what they have been doing that show this coach and staff are better game day coaches. We saw line adjustments and tough decisions made well and some mistakes. Mistakes on play calls that could’ve been different in hind sight but not blatant. Time will tell and always does but we did see some young guys giving their all.

Will be ignored by many. I have a problem with comparing year 1 head coach records. CJP is a cornbread lovin' southerner, he's had incredible talent at previous jobs, but he neither looked like our answer nor did he look like the defensive specialist we were sold.
lol what? back away from the ledge bro.

I don’t have words for the BS you just spewed out. Dude come on it’s one game. Kirby smart got his a** whooped his first year and Saban lost to Louisiana Monroe. Calm the hell down

Good thing Kirby and Nick are coaching UT then.

I thought our 2018 guys might develop into a good team, and I still think that. But they did not play as well as some of their talk led us to believe. Right now, they are behind the curve. They need to get better fixed for the fights ahead.

The only people really talking about how much better this team would be were some players and those saying Pruitt told big boosters we would handle WVU.

I do not for one second believe Pruitt would tell anyone outside the team that we could 'handle' anybody ... he might have tried to instill more confidence in certain players that required a little exaggeration, but I think he knew and knows exactly where he and this team stand and telling big boosters we could 'handle' anyone is not his style ... he doesn't and ain't gonna bs around ... I'm not saying someone didn't say that, I'm just saying I do not for one second believe Pruitt would say that

Sheesh, its 1 game. We were playing 3 true freshman in the secondary against NFL receivers and a Heisman finalist QB.

I thought the secondary played pretty well considering the guy was threading the needle on almost very throw. Their dlinemen were blowing by our olinemen like they were wearing concrete cleats! They were throwing them around like rag dolls. We actually could have taken the lead in the game, 13-7 with the ball, but those 2 runs up the middle losing 5 yards each closed the door. They dominated the middle of the field. Dline was very soft and this is far from the best defense they will encounter.

You challenged my opinion. Which is cool. But it isnt my responsibility to do your job for you (prove myself wrong).
Your basing your opinion of one sample size and concluding that Pruitt isn’t cut out to be a head coach. Am I wrong? I knew going into this game that more than likely Grier was going to carve us up and that exactly happened. When your playing a Heisman candidate QB with no returning starters at corner or nickel did you expect anything different. Or did you fall into the trap of “this team is better than what the media is saying”. Who knows maybe the record will end up better than some expect but yesterday wasn’t a shock to me and I’m not gonna lose my mind over it either and form an opinion on whether he’s cut out for this or not.

Yep, I still think so.

I think Bama, UGa, and Auburn would be miraculous. So set them aside.

I think FL and USCe will be uphill battles, but we might win one of the two.

I think Mizzou, Vandy and Kentucky are well within our capability, but we might lose one of the three.

And then there are the three cupcakes.

So that puts us in the 6-6 to 7-5 range, depending on how we do against peer or near-peer competition.

This season ain't over, brother.

This is exactly my take 82. I thought 7-5/8-4 was possible before yesterday. I’m disappointed in our D-Line play. I think our DBs, albeit freshmen, wouldn’t have covered as bad if we could’ve generated ANY kind of pass rush. Now, their ability to tackle in space was putrid. But the offense, specifically JG, looked really nice and I was happy to see the pro style back! Overall, my expectations are back to earth and I was just happy to not see the ol’ red faced, trumpet blowing, coaching imposter on the sideline yesterday. Good to “see” you again by the way.

I thought the Dline atleast the interior played well. We got no pressure from the OLB position

the DB s got torched because a couple months ago they were in high school and they were facing one of the best passing attacks in college football.

I have no clue why the DL sucked so bad, but my working theory is that Butch Jones poisoned the minds of all these players. They are no longer serviceable football players and this team isnt getting better until all of Butch Jones players have been wiped from the team.

Wow, posts like this really take me back to 2013 and 2014 “reason we look bad is Butch is trying to win with Dooley players. Dooley recruited soft players that didn’t know how to win. Those guys are broken, Butch can’t fix that. Now Butch is recruiting winners, guys that won championships in high school, many from the state of TN that want to give their all. We just have to give it time for Butch to get his guys in here”

I'm in a wait and see with CJP. He did nothing yesterday which gave me any additional hope. We're on our 4th experiment as HC. Hope he does better than the rest.

It's great to see you too, Rev! We were just talking about the Grudenite community the other day; you and Sara were two of the people I thought of, and here I've seen both of you post in the FF just in the past week. I'm real glad you're both around. *salute*

Maybe. We love the buyout at UT. Plus, I'm learning today that Pruitt's first year is actually CBJ's 6th year.

The line under your username may be the smartest words you've ever typed.

It took about half a quarter to see why Pruitt is stocking linemen and DBs. Looking forward to the latter part of the season, after the death row of our schedule. This team will improve.
