This is where you want to be in a rebuilding first year. You want to get better as the season progresses. Definitely surprises me after that Charlotte troll job from the Vols.
For where we had fallen under Butch this year has been a successful first year of a major rebuild. Flirting with a bowl and 2 wins vs SEC Top 25 teams is a win for a program as low as we had fallen. It hasn’t been pretty at times or even most of tye season but it hardly ever is in year one of a MAJOR rebuild.
Getting 2 SEC wins against Top 25 teams is a miracle and CJP and company are the magic ingredient!!! This staff is teaching and demanding improvement in every facet of the game - O, D and ST and it's showing on the field - this is being accomplished with essentially Butch Jones' players.
Good things are coming to Rock Top . . . be patient!!
I picked the Vols to be 6-6 at the beginning of the season and we are about where I thought we'd be. I had us beating Florida and losing to Auburn and the rest have sort of played out the way they should have. Except how close we played Georgia. Pleasant surprises in the secondary with freshmen stepping up and JG keeping us in games by not turning over the ball. The defense as a whole is playing well.
Expectations met imo if the Vols can get to a bowl game. The extra practice time is invaluable. Go Vols!
This week they can focus on what they did right instead all the things they did wrong. Hope this was the flip they'very been waiting on. CJP will keep them amped up this week. If they can stay together and beat Mizzou, they will punish Vandy.
If they can beat UK, they can beat Mizzou and Vandy. 7-5 is a very good possibility given the Mizzou game is in Knoxville.
Beating two ranked SEC teams is accomplishment enough even if UK turns out to be a total fraud. Beating Auburn on the road was more than Butch Jones ever did in 5 years.
Pruitt is already proving to be 10 times the man Jones ever was.
