I guess what some of us are trying to say is that having empathy for others is important. Being an empathetic person requires us to actually care enough to WANT to be willing to think outside our own experiences and belief systems and to open our minds and hearts to the fact that not everyone has the same life experiences from which to draw when they are making choices -- big or small.
As an aside, this brings up a point of pain for me personally. Many Tennessee fans claim to be Jesus-loving Christians, so you'd think their No.1 goal in in life would be to love everyone equally and powerfully, regardless of, well... ANYTHING.
But, nope. There are conditions. Always conditions.
