Former Lady Vols Basketball Guard Ruby Whitehorn Joins New Program After Dismissal | Rocky Top Insider
Former Lady Vols basketball guard Ruby Whitehorn has committed to her next school after being dismissed from Tennessee.
She plays a better system believes in defined player roles on the court. Her team is really limited in talent yet they have won big this season although their league in not the SEC. I like her style of play much more than Kim's but hopefully we'll be successful next season with Kim's system maybe we just need different players.Especially interesting given that ASU Coach Molly Miller has often been compared with Kim Caldwell re: incredible success in earlier coaching career, among other things.
IMO opinion, for a major school college coach, it's such a tough line between being compassionate and wanting to give erring players every opportunity to succeed, and knowing when to employ tough love, coupled with the desire to protect the school's legacy and reputation.I can’t keep myself from wondering if Kim is second guessing her choice to kick Ruby from the team.
Kim 100% did the right thing to dismiss Ruby. Less for the fact that she was caught with weed and more because this was her second infraction in less than 3 months. That's 100% on Ruby. If she didn't, then the team would have known that there are no consequences to their actions.IMO opinion, for a major school college coach, it's such a tough line between being compassionate and wanting to give erring players every opportunity to succeed, and knowing when to employ tough love, coupled with the desire to protect the school's legacy and reputation.
Or more bluntly, do you turn a blind eye in order to win more games? That certainly happens in college football and men's basketball with distressing regularity.
I don't know Lady Vol's history to know whether Pat ever removed a player from the team. But my sense of her is that she would likely have dismissed Ruby in these circumstances. So far as I know, Geno has never dismissed a player from the roster, but he has benched players on rare occasion, including Paige, and has quietly encouraged players to transfer at the end of a season.
