Rowdy Section(s) in Neyland?

Back several years ago when umbrellas were allowed in the stadium some guy in the upper deck setting over from us got mad and bent his umbrella in half and then tossed it off of the upper deck on to the people down below. I don't remember if he got kicked out or not. Hopefully no one got hurt, but it was kind of funny.:birgits_giggle:

I hit a onie with a gator fan at the game this past year and no one seemed to care, but i forget what section.

Y6 is always pretty good. There are some older guys that sit behind us but they never complain and I try to make a clear view for them whenever possible.

This didn't happen in Neyland but I was at an Elite Eight/Sweet Sixteen weekend set of games and I had people ask me if I am going to be standing the whole time (sarcastically).

Do not sit on the visitors sideline at all...Those sections are terrible and I as well was in Section W and it was awful and asked to be moved...That whole side just sits on their hands and is afraid to yell and when someone else does that is all she wrote as they go get someone saying your being disruptive...it is ridiculous...Sit anywhere else if you can!

I agree you should be able to stand and be loud if you choose to do so.

I have seen people escorted out because people would complain about them not wanting to sit down. I sit in the south endzone and have seen cops escort people out because they refused to sit.

Standing and cheering enthusiastically is one thing.

Being a drunken lout is another.

I like my drink but I also like to remember the game the next day.

As a young, enthusiastic fan myself, there is no reason to be standing the entire game. Standing on 3rd down or for the next few plays after a big play is acceptable and encouraged, but standing up just for the sake of standing up is ridiculous.

It doesn't encourage the team any more than you sitting down and being loud. Not all fans are high school/college students like most of you on this board who complain about people asking you to sit down. My parents aren't handicapped, but its not easy for them to get up and down frequently, and by stading up for a punt in the middle of the 2nd quarter you are keeping them from seeing the game that they paid to have a seat at.

Since we're busting out "my buddy" stories. My buddy smoked at least 4 cigs in the students section last year. No one said a word, nor did any Usher see him and or give a damn.

Anyone who screams when we're on offense should be beaten with a stick. Get rowdy on defense all day long, take breaks when we're on offense.

Must be terrible to be so addicted to nicotine you can't wait an hour or two. Not to mention being so insensitive to everyone around you.

I should add that the time I was asked to sit down in section W was during the '06 UF game right after the pick 6 that was eventually called back. I though the whole stadium was about to come down, and this guy just taps me and my friend on the shoulder and asks if we can please sit down because his wife didn't want to have to stand to see.

Like one of the others mentioned...I just hustle seats when it I get to knoxville game day weekend...unless I get free tix from contacts before driving down. I was a huge fan of seats we got for the USC 2OT game a few years go. lower level...but first row above the isle about halfway up the lower level. Does that make sense? Row 25'ish maybe? Plenty of leg room...could jump up and down and not knock someone down. Loved those seats...and that game.

I think we'll see some renewed enthusiasm this year in Neyland. Let's hope so anyway!

I'd also have to agree with everyone on the student section. Unfortunately I didn't attend UT (from TN back in the day...extended family all lives there)....but my little brother did. When I was a senior at IU....so about 2002...I went to a game with him in the student section and it was rowdy to say the least. Seemed like there was probably twice as many people in the section than there should have been...which was fine by me. It was definitely a party.

Those people can always enjoy the games at Club LeConte. The one time I was there on a game day, the average age was 65, easily.

I took my wife and both of our boys to their first Tennessee game back during the home opener against UAB in 2005. We sat in the student section in section A. Everybody around us had been drinking since the night before and continued through the half. By the third qtr., some young folk were passing out from the combination of an oppressively hot day and over-imbibing. It was the most fun I had at a game since I was a student. My wife was not impressed and has refused to attend another game since. Her loss.

This past year, I had season tix in Z11 which had great sight lines but mired me amidst the old farts of yesteryear. I couldn't get some of those folks to stand if I dropped a hand grenade. Hopefully some of those folks will lament the loss of Phil so much that they won't renew their season tix and allow for some young blood to reenergize those seats.

Listen to this...I was with a group of friends in the lower bowl (I believe section h) of the student section in '06. Intoxicated. Two students in front of us (one of them dressed in dickies that said "ninja" on the back, and no, it wasn't halloween) got upset with the fact that my friend was cussing. I think my friend has a mild case of tourettes, though it hasn't been proven, but the kids got the ushers on us because we were using language.

The usher obviously didn't do anything because he didn't give a damn about the student section unless bodily harm was being done or alcohol consumed.

Shortly before half, the dunce went and got the cops on me. The cop takes me into the terrace. I told him I had been drinking and I was 21 and that I get excited about the game. He basically laughed and said "it's ok if you're drunk, just try not to piss them off anymore".

The ninja left at half, but I was befuddled, considering the fact that this kid goes to UT, and half of our professors use language in class.

It takes all kinds I guess...

I really get into the games also. I like to stand and scream when we are on defense. One year when we went into overtime against South Carolina I was standing on the bleachers as was everyone in my section and when we scored the winning touchdown I got so excited that I started jumping up and down and missed the bleacher and fell into the guys below me.

Ohio fan here - just wanted to say I'm looking forward to my first visit to Knoxville Sept 26. Our stadium only seats roughly 24,000 so Neyland is slightly bigger! I have seen the Cats play at Ohio State, WVU, Va Tech, Pitt, Rutgers and Northwestern, so I'm looking forward to checking out another BCS conference stadium.
