Apparently one has to be on the other side of the state have the audacity to call for a change.

Today, Ron Higgins of the Memphis Commercial Appeal published an article entitled "If Fulmer won't change philosophy, UT should change coaches":

If Fulmer won't change philosophy, UT should change coaches : Columnists : Commercial Appeal

The article includes another telling CPF stat: "since 2000, 14 new coaches have come into the SEC, and of the 13 coaches Fulmer has faced, he's lost at least once to nine of them."

Meanwhile, with the exception of Basilio and Beano on 1180, the Knoxville media remains a nauseating Fulmerite monolith. Vol Calls was ludicrous on Monday night, the Sports Animal guys are in lock-step with the "let's let the season play out" mantra (with the possible exclusion of Mickey Dearstone, who said, "I'm not ready to jump ship, but I've got my life jacket on." Even Johns Adams, who has never been shy about being critical, has yet to say it's time for CPF to go.

It's obvious that retaining access to the coaches and players for interviews is of more importance to 98% of the local media than speaking the truth is. There may be some negavols in sheep's clothing among them, but those guys are still sellouts. They're not going to openly agree with Fulmer going until after it's a done deal.

Yes it's pathetic, I wanted to call SportTalk and yell at them because it's so pathetic what they say.

Ron Higgins is one of the best writers covering the Vols, and being in Memphis, gets overlooked by most people on this board.

I did hear, here in Nashville on the wake up zone, Mark Howard tell a caller (who wanted Cutcliffe and Chavis out) that firing assistants now was like re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Higgins is a good writer.

For him to blast Fulmer like this.....that's saying something.

I've read the CA many times and have to search hard to find a positive UT story. Just seems like a normal article to me :dunno:

Guess you don't read it enough. There are a lot of positive articles regarding the Vols. Even prints articles regularly written by Knoxville writers.

Bud Ford made reporter leave a media session early because he was being critical of CPF.

I heard the reporter was "Small Mike" working for Horne Radio. For those who don't know, "Small Mike" is an infamous caller to radio shows here in Knoxville. He doesn't call the Sports Animal anymore, but he used to call every single day.

I've read enough to see they consistently bury UT articles. My family has also said the same thing about the CA.

Being a good writer doesn't necessarily mean you have great knowledge about a specific sport.
Ron Higgins has covered the SEC for at least 10 years.. I met him at an Octoberfest party at a Catholic church about 5 years ago and we discussed Tennessee football and SEC football at length. He is very knowledgeable on the subject.

That's fine. We just have different experiences. I live in Memphis and read the CA a lot. By the way, how deep does the News Sentinel bury the Tigers news if printed at all? Not that it makes a rats butt to me.

Tiger High does not have the presence in Knox that UT does in Memphis. Not a decent comparison.

Not comparing, just curious why you give a rats butt what's printed about the Vols in Memphis on a weekly basis. If you don't care about Higgins article, I don't give a rats butt... :p

Because half my family (most UT alums) grew up there, still live in Memphis and complain about it. It's been a problem with that paper for a number of years.
