Ron Bliss: "Fulmer will step down if..."

If he gets a job with UT then it's for giving speeches and shaking hands to make some money for the university, nothing more.

Aren't most of us thinking the same thing? That Fulmer won't survive 2 losing seasons in 4 years? Particularly when Cutcliffe seems responsible for the 2 winning seasons.

The media has somehow glossed over the fact that 2005 was supposed to be the line in the sand: get it back to championship football or step aside. He shouldn't get any more time to correct an old problem.

11 losses in 2 1/3 seasons since 2005, continual blow-out losses, etc, is NOT getting it back on track. I don't think it should matter how well they 'improve' this year. If they don't get rid of him now they might as well just let him coach out the whole contract and sqush the possibility altogether.

The whole Associate AD stuff.....I think if he is removed he should be fully removed. There is no way he can hang around without getting his nose in on the football team.

yep. and these type of deals don't work.

it's best to just make a complete and total separation.

Some of the boosters we have, from what I have read, have already written the checks and are just waiting to date them if things go wrong. Below 6-6 and we are starting a search.
you don't really believe that people tried to save themselves time down the road by filling out the first couple sections of a check early?

Get some fatkat booster to write the $5.5 million check---name a building after him, give him a better skybox and free booze for life.

Does Chavis coach us in the bowl game?

I'd rather have Clawson, at least he realized Crompton was a bust, and that Nick needed the shot. Chavis needs to keep making sure that defense is in tact.

Sounds plausible.

Back in college, my old man would fill out a couple portions of a check and give it to me to buy groceries with.

It's pretty much the same thing.

The though of Fulmer failing to make a bowl twice in 4 years and keeping his job is hard to comprehend and painful.

Particularly when you couple it with the fact we've had two top 5 recruiting classes in the past 4 years. You can't have that talent and have a .500 team.

This just happened with the new basketball facility, right? Might be hard to go back to find another donor to give that much.

What kind of building do you get for paying to force out the head coach?

Maybe the rich booster would get a wing in the football offices named after him. :eek:lol:

The obvious is that if Tennessee goes 4-8 -- or even 6-6 -- the run of Fulmer as head coach will end.

I think Fulmer is well aware of that and will take pressure off by announcing his retirement, maybe as soon at next week should he lose badly at Georgia or following the Alabama game -- should he lose to both Georgia and Alabama. With the prospect of finishing last in the SEC East facing him, Fulmer will look for a way out without dividing the Tennessee family and taking retirement would allow him to go out on his own instead of forcing Athletic Director Mike Hamilton into a tough decision.

Having read Ron for decades in the Kingsport Times-News, I doubt he's an UT insider. Whatcha think?

I'll believe it when I see it...Or Hear it :clapping:

I'm surprised this hasn't been merged with all the other rumor threads yet.

No way fulmer retires voluntarily---he's making way too much money to walk away from.

I could make a long list of reasons I don't think he'd walk away on his own... and money would be close to the bottom. At the top... he still thinks he's the best coach for UT football.

Yeah he's truely delusional these days. But he does have a ego.
