Romney's VP pick

When he picks Ryan and tries to relaunch his campaign as all about government finances, the deficit, tax reform, and budgets, he absolutely makes his own tax history completely relevant. The choice will be between the standard trickle down theories versus repeal of the Bush tax cuts for the top earners.

This is what the Romney campaign doesn't seem to understand. It is his own campaign platform that makes his tax returns relevant. That is why the issue is going to continue to be a huge drag on his campaign moving forward: its because every time Romney opens his mouth he makes the election about the very issues reflected by his own financial history, and particularly his tax returns..

So, you think Obama should release his transcripts. He's made student loan reform a big part of his platform, after all.

I appreciate your view points. However, I get the feel that you never give anyone a fair chance except those with no shot of winning with limited public records. It's almost egotistical coming from the "liberty" crew and it feels as though you just say it to stand out.

It's not that he's not libertarian, it's that he's not a real conservative. His record speaks for itself. I wanted to like Ryan, and said a lot of positive things about him on this board in the past. He's proven himself unworthy, IMO.

I guess I have a hard time equating the value of college course transcripts for what was then a kid from 25 years ago with tax returns from a few years ago for a multimillionaire. But maybe that's just me.

If their value is so low, what's the big deal in releasing them?

I don't know.

What I do know is that I care much more about whether Mitt Romney used tax dodges, legal or not, to insulate tens of millions of dollars of income, and putting someone like that in charge of the economy when taxation is a huge issue moving forward, versus what Obama got 25 years ago in English Lit.

yet you didn't seem too worried with the multiple tax cheats put into the current admin. If you're going to take a stand at least you should be consistent

versus what Obama got 25 years ago in English Lit.

I'm actually more interested with his grades in classes like economics, finance, accounting, etc

Romney pick of Ryan is 100 times better than the McCain pick of Palin.

If anyone agrees or disagrees with Ryan policies, he is "presidential".

It was a scary thought to think if something happened to McCain, Palin would be POTUS.

If you think a grade in some random econ class from 25 years ago has any relationship to managing the state of affairs today, that's just retarded.

if someone legally reduces his tax liability - using the tax code that is available and applicable to everyone else - we should presume that he is unfit to manage our economy?

I don't follow.

on the contrary, it would explain many things (depending on which class it was)

he's also hailed as an intellectual titan. if I had a transcript as polished as Obama's is claimed to be, I'd carry a spare copy in my back pocket.

Just ... that's mind blowingly dumb.

not really since it would show he's never understood econ (or any kind of business course) in his lifetime and still doesn't. He's also never held a job that forced him to learn any of this either. The man is helping to wreck the economy and his grades would at least give him an excuse

and it's not surprising you think it's dumb since he's your guy. I doubt you did very well in similar classes either but at least you're not in charge of fixing anything

You think that if he got an F in intro to Econ that it wouldn't relate to what's going on today?

legal or not? Don't you think the IRS is the arbiter of this? Weeks back you got all huffy claiming you were not suggesting he did anything illegal - now you continually trot this out.

it's like me saying I want to see the transcripts to see if Obama cheated in college.

At the risk of talking about something more relevant than tax returns: I find it interesting that the R ticket contains no social conservatives. A move in the right direction IMHO.

It's about image. It reflects poorly on his character to the average voter.
