I know where he is going with this and I think 47% isn't accurate at all BUT this is not good. To say 47% of the population believe they are "victims" and that anyone voting for Obama needs the government for everything...

I hope he stands by the statements and I can't wait
to see how this is going to play out.

Mitt Romney’s darkest hour

If this is what liberals get upset about then Romney should have this election slam-dunk style. But, there are way, way too many uninformed and flat out ignorant voters to allow that to happen.

There is some truth in it though. People that want the govt to give them handouts will continue to vote for whoever will do that. When enough vote for govt just so they'll get govt support there is no real election.

A bitter, clinger moment.

Just not very smart... He basically just said that 47% of America are lazy, dependent, and he doesn't care about them. Not what you want from a President. If he believes that 47% of Americans are welfare seeking victims then he is more out of touch with the common man than i thought!

There is some truth in it but 47%??? If he thinks almost half of America are too lazy to take care of themselves he is out of his mind. Truth is alot of people that voted for Obama go to work everyday.

Funny how the elderly want a handout from the government, but are not looked at with the same disdain as the people on foodstamps, unemployment, etc. I think that Americans are very selfish, and for all the talk about how lazy democratic voters are, it's the AARP that has no problem with dragging the country into a debt whole because of their selfish refusal to accept the reallity of the social security problem.
When FDR began social security, people could retire at 65. They tended to die by 68-70. Now people are living roughly ten years longer on average. These same people that complain about entitlement programs will NEVER vote to increase the retirement age. W Bush ran on a platform of no child left behind. He started 2 wars. Only 1 of these was justified. He pushed through Medicare part D. These programs are very popular among the same group of people that blast democrats for high government spending. I used to be a republican until I realized they were extinct. Now you have a group of people that are being bound to a stupid pledge led by Grover Norquist. Are Americans going to ever live up to the ideals of sacrifice in the name of what was a great nation, or is our collective selfishness (thanks "greatest generation") going to lead to our downfall? I think its time to pull the sheet out from over our heads.

My grandma is a part of this group. She busted her behind for 30 years in a factory and due to health conditions (alot of them caused by working in that factory) she has been on government assistance for the last 15 years. Nice to know the Governor views her as a victim that can't support herself. Like it or not this guy just pissed alot of people off!

Now i have to choose between big government or an out of touch job exporting silver spoon fed douche... AWESOME!

Romney: " These are people who pay no income tax... my job is not to worry about those people."

That is the line that hurts him.
The POTUS is the president of 100% of the people. His job is to worry about 100% of the people.

From the link provided in the op 44% of those that do not pay income tax are seniors, 30% are workers who takes advantage of the child tax credits or the working poor.

Its never good for a candidate to call a last minute 10pm press conference to try to clear up something he said.

How many times do people need to read Romney stories before they see him for what he is...a rich man who believes that government is of the rich, by the rich, and for the rich? That's it; everything else is a phony sales pitch.

Romney wants to be the President of American money. Does Romney care whether half of the people in our country live or die? He says he does not care.

Can you imagine what politicians have say behind closed doors in the past? Before every cell phone was a video records and before twitter/you tube.

Man, times have changed. Everyone has to be on guard 100% in what they say and do.

And it's the Democrats who engage in class warfare ?

Romney vs Obama
Rich(er) vs Rich
Republicans vs Democrats
Small government (only in theory) vs Big government (preferably socialism)
Einstein's definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

At what point will the American public realize that as long as we continue putting these out-of-touch puppets in office, nothing will change for the better? Pepe_Silvia has realized it:

Want change for the better? Tired of the bloat that is the US government? Forget blue vs red and take 20 minutes out of your day and research Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson.

A friend suggested I do the same a month or two ago. Do I agree with everything he stands for? No. But I disagree with him significantly less than I do Romney or Obama. Will my voting for Johnson win him the election, or even the state of Tennessee? Likely not. But by advising those of you who are sick of the status quo to take a look at him with an open mind (and letting you know that if you decide to vote for him, you are not alone), I feel that we can change the status quo much sooner.

Yep . . . Especially in an age of 24 hr media circling like buzzards. Truth doesn't matter as much as how the narrative gets framed and who defines it first.

The comment was clearly not meant for public consumption and now we'll have to endure countless segments and stories on it just like Obama's "you didnt build that" comment. Meanwhile, the debt keeps climbing and nobody really pays attention to the fact that there's an economy burning all around them.

That is true.
Obama was caught in 2008 at a fundraiser saying something about the conservative right haaging on to their guns just before the PA primary and Hillary won PA big.

What also makes this look worse is the 10 pm press conference last night and he basically doubled down on his comments.
He defense was his comments were not "elegantly stated".

What else could he really do though after statements like that? I think backing off would have looked even worse. The toothpaste was already out of the tube.

Agree.
He should not have held the press conference. His comments at the presser just added more wood to the fire.

His presser was a joke. He dodged all 3 questions and left the podium as fast as he could. He just keeps putting his foot in his mouth. It's funny the last republican president we had sounded like a complete idiot everytime he spoke with his failed analogies and "stategerie". This guy is constantly having to defend or clarify something stupid he said. The GOP should look at pushing a Mime in 2016.

Actually, there's only two parties in some states. The GOP and Dems will keep you in court until you have no funds.

Gary Johnson wins one battle and loses another in the fight for ballot access - Tampa Bay Libertarian | Examiner.com

The good news: Johnson’s win in Pennsylvania

On Friday, 14 September, a Commonwealth Court of Judges ruled two to one in Gary Johnson’s favor, saying 9,000 signatures were in fact valid despite the fact the address given did not on the petitions did not match addresses did not match the voting file. Not unexpectedly, the GOP attorneys are appealing this decision.

Pennsylvania Republican Party Spokesman Valarie Caras claiming that the “Libertarian Party's nominating petitions [were] riddled with errors, duplicate signatures, and in some cases, blatant fraud.” What Caras fails to mention is that this was the reason thousands of signatures were already thrown out from the beginning of the process.

Also, 16,000 signatures had already been agreed upon by all parties as legitimate. This is eight times the number of signatures required to run as a Republican or Democrat (just 2,000 signatures are needed) in Pennsylvania. For more information on this case, continue reading here.

The bad news: Johnson’s loss in Oklahoma

In the State of Oklahoma, the required number of signatures to be on the ballot for president is 51,739. While the party presented petitions with over 58,000 signatures, enough of them were disqualified to bring the number of recognized signatures down to just 41,000, which is a large amount for a state without a large population. The Johnson campaign was handed a defeat on Friday, 14 September. According to the Libertarian Party of Oklahoma:

“
Our writ and injunction were rejected yesterday (Friday, 14 September) by the Oklahoma Supreme Court. That means that Oklahoma ballots are STILL scheduled to be printed without listing Gov. Johnson on them. The campaign is evaluating what to do next and (we’ll) post more here as soon as (we) know something.

To keep up with the latest information on the fight for Oklahoma, visit the Oklahoma for Gary Johnson Facebook page.

Still undecided: Johnson’s status in Michigan

The State of Michigan is trying to deny Gary Johnson ballot access in that state by applying a “sore loser” laws that says Gary Johnson lost the race for the Republican Primary, according to a judge’s decision written on 07 September. However, Johnson withdrew for the race for the Republican nomination for President on 28 December 2011, and the primary was not held until 28 February 2012. Therefore, the lawsuit is challenging the assertion that Johnson lost the Republican Primary, since he had ended his campaign for the Republican nomination two months before the Michigan Republican Primary.

The Johnson campaign made several unsuccessful attempts to have his name removed off of the ballot for the primary, since the Libertarian Party automatically grants access to the Libertarian Party in that state. Therefore, the Libertarian Party of Michigan is taking the case to federal court to challenge the ruling.

The fight with the State of Michigan is also over the attempt to remove Gary Johnson’s name from the ballot form the Republican Primary in Michigan, despite Gary Johnson declaring himself a Libertarian and out of the race two months ahead of the primary. To read more about this case, read here.
