I'm pumped, but I can't be there. Who's going? We need a packed house for this one. It's a winnable game; Memphis is a young team that might get rattled by the press, and by a big, loud crowd at TBA. The key, of course, is going to be point guard play. I don't see Jordan Howell starting this one; we're going to need Ramar's speed and athleticism on the floor for most of the game, I think. Actually making free throws would help, too.

I'm pumped about it, too. Unfortunately, I have to work this weekend in Memphis. Let's hope our boys underneath can get some points in the paint.

This game will not be close at all !

Which way are you prognosticating? I've seen Mem play a couple of time this year and they have some talent, experience, and depth. I think it'll be close comparing position to position. Just curious who you think will get the blowoout and why?

I'll be there! Jordan Howell will start. You're right, free throws might be key.

Having watched the tigers more this year, if they play to their potential this might get ugly. Should be a pretty good game thoug - both teams love to run the floor!!!

Having watched the Tigers quite a bit, I believe getting Dorsey in foul trouble is THE key to beating them. He tries to block every shot put up and is very prone to fouling guys that pump fake him. Let's go at him, get him on the pine and we can potentially equalize the rebounding. Then we have a chance because they are as prone to boneheaded turnovers as we are.

The Vols have been doing better in the turnover dept. I have not seen memphis play but I have seen the vols. and they need a lot of work.

i hope our guys play well and gice the tigers a game.

game in West Tn. They are fast, athletic, and deep. Don't want to get into a track meet with this bunch. They have too many ballhandlers who can finish. You have to slow it down and make Memphis play YOUR GAME. That is play zone, use the shot clock and make them work for every shot. Because if the 3's aren't falling then they then to get frustrated and start jacking up 3' s from everywhere. Be patient and you can beat this group. But if you come out wanting to run and gun and press then that is there bag. There isn't a pure shooter in the bunch.

My thoughts, from a non-partisan view, are that Memphis is going to try to run a hectic pace, and if Tennessee can keep up then they should win. Memphis is far from an organized bunch, and doesn't look like they run a lot of set plays. If Pearl and his staff can get Lofton(one of my favorite players in the NCAA) some good looks and get him rolling early them Tenn can take this one easily, he is the key to this game IMO. Memphis can be frustrated by teams that D them up and don't give them good looks.

A little "fringe-benefit" from work (a.k.a. evil virus) had me sidelined on the couch tonight. I'm really hating that I couldn't be there. Having lived in Memphis for 4 years, I have an extra-special hatred.

Did you at least get to see Lofton light it up in high def?

The last day of school was yesterday and today and tommorrow are "Study Days", but there was a pretty good crowd. The student section was pretty full and it got crazy a couple times. What a great game by lofton and the rest!

This is a good thread for me to come out of the closet. I have been a rabid Tennessee football fan since the middle sixties and a Memphis State basketball fan since the early seventies. However, tonight from the opening tipoff I found myself rooting for the Big Orange over the Tigers and started to wonder what was going on. Then I realized what has caused this "reversal of fortunes". Everything about Coach Pearl, from his personality, to the way he coaches his players to have a winning attitude, to his handling of a moronic tv reporter have converted my basketball allegiance to the Big Orange full time and has moved the Tigers to the back seat. Thanks Coach Pearl for taking the arrogant John Calipari down a notch or two. I can't wait to hear the radio sports talk shows here in the Memphis area tommorrow with all the sobbing Tiger fans. Maybe I'll call in myself and announce my conversion to the masses.. Go Vols!!!!!!!
