Rogan starts at CB

He told me on Myspace he was transferring. Seriously, a lot of things between now and UCLA can potentially happen. A LOT. I wouldn't put much stock between what's happening now. Injuries, suspensions, etc. It's still quite a while between now and then

Man with this secondary if we can get some pressure on the opposition we should produce alot of defensive scores. Lets hope the D-LINE is up for the challenge

Willingham is a definate starter.. they were raving about how awesome of a spring he had..
and how he's become a true leader.. He will start with either Vinson/Rogan.. Most likely Vinson.. especially since he's gonna be healed..
Rogan will Get TONS of PT tho.. no worry's for him or JOhnson..

Not that I don't believe it, but any football player worth his salt should have the confidence to believe he is a starter. Rogan may, or may not, get that opportunity, but his comment at least tells us that he thinks (knows) he can do it.

Just watched the SEC championship game tape, and it reminded me that Vinson got schooled on multiple occasions. Hopefully he will be able to step it up. I think Rogan will be great too so there is clearly plenty of depth at DB, but just maybe a little bit too much Larry Slade as well.

Willingham will start. Did you watch Gaines play last year?

I agree, Gaines lacked a bit to be desired, but the entire secondary did early in the season. Didn't he get hurt in only the 2nd game against Southern Miss? He might not start, but I feel like he will get a chance after coming back for like his 6th year or something like that. Willingham did look good in the spring and he could possible be the other starter with Vinson.

So is Rogan gonna return punts & kickoffs?

It I were coaching Foster & Creer would be back there for kickoffs,

This reminds me of a bet I lost.....I bet $100 that LaMarcus Coker would return a punt or a kickoff for a TD before the end of his Jr. year :banghead2:

Why Foster? He is our number 1 back. Creer, yes. Foster, no.

I'd actually like to see Berry, and G. Jones returning kicks and punts. I would also like to see Vinson on kickoffs.

That's a great idea. We are thin at safety so let's put the best one we have as a kick returner.

It really doesn't matter. You know how often Berry was returing INT's or fumbles he picked up lasy year anyway? It wouldn't really be that different. He is just as likely to get hurt doing that as returning kicks. Willingham and or Rogan could certainly play the safety position if need be anyway. The only positions we are really "thin" at are on the defensive line. And as tempting as it would be to have Dan Williams deep on the kickoff it might not be a good idea. haha. I don't see how the idea of Berry returning kicks is anymore ludacris than the idea of him playing offense in the shotgun. Everybody seemed to like that idea though?

why not let Daryl Vereen and Vince Faison return a few kicks? If I remember correctly, both of them are supposed to be good ath. with some speed.

I don't think the idea is ludacris, but there are certainly people just as capable of doing the job that play positions we are more deep at. (creer, GJ, etc.)

Well at least we are in agreement about G Jones getting the oportunity as a return man. How about Ahmad Paige with Rogan? Who knows, but I would just feel comfortable with Berry back there sometimes. He looks so natural with the ball in his hands It's just hard for me to see him getting hurt. I don't know, but for some reason the thought of Creer returning kicks scares me more than Berry. I could see him getting hurt, and that scares me with Hardesty's history of injuries because that could leave us with Foster and a true freshman at RB. That is scary. Because at least one or two of them get hurt every year. Creer getting hurt almost scares me more than Foster getting hurt. weird

Vinson is the best athlete UT has in the seconday... Even Berry is in awe of him. I don't know who else starts but it is difficult to imagine that he won't if healthy.

I think Creer will also return kickoffs... Rogan is a GREAT return man. He's the best one Tennessee has had in years. Had Fulmer and the rest of the scouts not found that diamond in the rough, we would've lost at home against Vanderbilt, and thus would not have won the East. Foster doesn't have a second gear, and it's not wise to use a big running back for kickoff returns. Besides, Rogan has better quickness and speed than both Creer and Foster.

IMO, Gerald Jones should get an oppurtunity at punt returner. As great as Rogan was last season, Jones is still a no brainer. His footspeed and instincts are unmatched on this team. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing Berry at kickoff return in big games, but against teams we should beat, I don't think it's worth risking an injury.

Also, I liked that we used Creer on kickoffs last year. The more you get the ball in the hands of a freshman with promise, the better. On the other hand, I think Hardesty is still a good step or two ahead of Creer and should've gotten carries when Foster was getting a rest. On that note, it's probably a good thing that Kurt Roper left. He was a good recruiter, but Drayton is better, and there were times when Roper should've played Hardesty but did not.

do you guys not think that Berry and GJones have had their opportunities to field punts and kick offs in practice? It seems like i read that Berry was having a hard time catching the ball.

I agree with just about all that, Foster had good field vision last year , he had 2 good returns return against the speedsters of Cal, and I would put Hardesty in to truck somebody over.
We got alot of players that can run back kicks and I guess its Rogan's job to lose.
