Rodney Garner thread (merged)

If I remember correctly, Orgeron said in his presser that he was coming to UT all along. Said something like he made a list and UT came out on top by 17.

The hysteria played out on message boards. Sound familiar?
Lane and Monte didn't know that when they decided to fly down and surprise him. As I said two different situations. Why are we still talking about them as if they were similar?

If Garner initiated discussions he most likely had a goal in mind. It might have been based on his perception of the Orgeron situation. He may have thought he could get more than CLK is willing to offer.

Garner told Chris Low he would have a decision by Sunday afternoon. He still couldn't commit because Richt got involved and UGA is trying to keep him. Now he is mulling over both offers and will have a decision made tomorrow. He told Low he wants to make it quick so he does not waste time on the recruiting trail.

My gut says he is headed to UT, but wants to sleep on it.

takes NO direction from CWM. You want to know why our D had problems? Lets start with the
"great" RG who won't gameplan with the other "D" coaches and punches a clock. He is
complacent and needs to go, but NOOOO, Damon Evans will force Richt to keep him by
paying him to be a lazy clock puncher. He doesn't even recruit like he used to and IMO is
overrated. CWM worked his butt off staying late putting in time to get it done, RG? where was
the Associate HC/DT coach/RC? At home asleep. He is a complacent cancer.
What has he done as a DT coach? besides

Of course UGA is bad mouthing Garner. If he stays though, he will be just fine with them again.

He may get a raise, but not near what we are willing to give him. They would either have to promote him to DC or give every assistant a nice raise because Willie Martinez makes only 300k. We are offering 400k. If they give Garner a 250k raise, then Martinez would probably have to get at least a 150k raise as well and every other staff member would want to be matched evenly. Not saying that he won't stay there for less, but money won't be the issue.

They're delusional. Martinez sucks and they know it.

I assure you Martinez is the problem...not Garner.

Garner is solid.

Don't be so sure. This is exactly what people said when he left Auburn and then when he left us. The guy is obviously a master recruiter, but he supposedly tends to drive his coworkers crazy.

Simply because he isn't a "Yes" man doesn't mean he is hard to get along with.

He is working for a joke of a DC...who has no clue what is going on.

I don't buy that...could be wrong, but I don't buy it.

He is a solid coach, and a good man.

He's hard to get along with . . . because he's hard to get along with. The examples are pretty well chronicled. Still . . . his recruiting prowess is such that people put up with it.

I don't buy that. I'd like to see some of these "chronicled" stories. Generally a guy that is "hard to get along with" isn't that great of a recruiter.

I understand that.

But...look at who he has "not gotten along with."

Martinez, who most UGA fans will agree is clueless.

And Chavis, who we all know was a loyal guy to CPF, but didn't always get along with the ones that weren't "his guys."

And honestly I've not heard about his Auburn days enough to be able to comment.

He can punch in all he wants as long as he "wakes up early and goes to bed late." I don't think that's too many hours:p

Don't buy it if you don't want to. I'm just telling you what I know. Not saying that he wouldn't be a good hire, just that in the past some coworkers haven't really cared much for him.

I know that he and John Chavis had a falling out (some sources say jealously on Coach Chavis's part) and the head coach sided with his long time assistant. Then UT's football fortunes started a long slow decent.

Branden Smith just commited to Georiga.. I don't think we are getting Garner now..

Smith said earlier that he knew Garner was flirting with Tennessee and he would find out if he was leaving..

oh well

First of all nothing is set in stone as far as smith goes just because he committed to GA and looks like that it is set in stone doesnt mean he cant change his mind hes still a kid and theres a possibility he could change his mind if he wants he hasnt signed the LOI...And as far as garner goes just because Smith Commited to GA doesnt mean that Garner isnt coming to UT.

I've got to say that I'm fairly indifferent to wether or not Garner comes. To be Frank (and yes you can be Shirley), I really just want these coaching postitions to be filled "sooner than later", as said by Garner. I'm of the opinion that we need to go ahead and shore up some of these jobs and get to work...we're getting to the second week in January with only 3 and a half weeks until NSD and there's not even half the staff on board to make the final push. I know CLK said to have patience and it's not going to be a fast process but I for one would like to at least get everybody on board by the middle of the month. Perhaps I'm being a bit of a peckerwood, but forgive me I'm a bit anxious to see this program prominent again...it's like O said, "nobody's gonna out-work us....yaw yaw yaw....footbaw" Anyways I just wanted to vent...go vols...and good game Marlon Brown...come home to the Power T son.
