Rodney Garner rumored to be hired as DL Coach

Garner coming makes me think Steele is staying on. Maybe as Co-DC / LB Coach or even Analyst.
Really hope this isn't the case. I'd much rather go with Kacy or Gillespie. At this point, I'd even take the guy from Wofford over Steele.

I have a feeling that Steele may be staying on as a LB coach because he is already under contract for 2 years. If he leaves on his own, then the university doesn't have to pay him. If they fire him, he gets the easiest $900,000 ever made. Having Steele and Garner on staff as position coaches would be one hell of a start to a defensive staff, and do wonders for recruiting.

Boom hire by CJH ! Will Big Cat stay now ? What about Brooks ? Would he reconsider honoring his signing with UT now that we have Steele & Garner ?

Our stock probably just went up in Big Kat's book.

As far as Brooks, if he doesn't want to be here, cut him loose. He can burn his one-time transfer portal freebie getting back here.

At this point we need guys who buy in to the program, not people beholden to one coach and transferring out if that coach leaves.

As a recruiter, that should be your goal: sell the kids on the program as a whole, not just the fact that you are currently there.

Garner has a shadyness to recruiting we need, he works in that grey area but doesn’t get caught, let’s hope he doesn’t get caught here. For some reason the other schools keep it quiet, we rat ourselves out...

To many people knew. Like octopus 🐙. Eventually someone would have 🐀 out the lot due to jealousy and money 💰 Have a wonderful day. In CHRIST Alone

Brian Harsin coming from Boise probably didn’t know enough about Garner’s rep, his loss
Oh he knew ... must be some other reason he would not want one of the best recruiters in the SOUTH on his staff .. makes ya wonder .. and even then nobody knocking on RG door till now from us ... HHHHMMMM

I remember my pops saying we were in trouble when Garner left. At the time had no idea what he was talking about but now I do. He said the same thing when we lost that game to LSU in 2001...I think the quote was that “we just blew the program”with the loss..

He saw the same thing I saw....Just went down hill from that farce of a football display.

Anyone answer how it's possible to hire a position coach while you're still looking for the coordinator? I can see that if it's a good hire, that could possibly help get the coordinator signed. But, i would expect whoever's hired to want to put their own d staff together. What if garner doesn't like who is chosen?

This is what I'm thinking as well. When he was hired here, we had a DC so he wasn't hired on in that role. Having Steele in the LB role would be really helpful to Rodgers coming in from the NFL and needing a little time to adjust to the college game. The combo of Steele and Garner is a huge recruiting asset for either Rodgers or Conklin who may not be the best recruiters like an Al Washington but may end up being better as a DC overall. I love having both of those guys here to support whoever the new DC is.

Very easy to dismiss. I think White and Heupel discussed Garner with every candidate...and none of their last name’s were Steele.
You may have a way of knowing that that I don't. I'm still trying to read the tea leaves and haven't really discounted any possibility.

I kind of struggle with the idea that Steele won't be on the staff since he seems to be helping with hiring and recruiting.

serious question. Why has Garner never been a DC or moved up from D Line coach? I'm just curious as he has all these years experience in the SEC with success. I will hang up and listen.
