1.) Trae Golden looks to have shed some weight and gained a step. He looks to be in excellent shape. He was the most valuable player tonight of the 6 teams I watched play. Excellent passing, excellent scoring, and he just clearly made everyone on his team better.

2.) McRae scored 55, and he really could have put up 70 if he wanted. Granted it's a relatively little defense summer league, he's got some real offensive skill, and looks to be really confident in his game right now.

3.) Maymon is by far the most physical post we have right now. He also looks to have trimmed up since the season. He brought tons of energy and rebounded well.

4.) Kenny Hall rebounded well but was not very aggressive offensively. However, when he was aggressive, he pretty much scored when he wanted to. He looks essentially the same as he did during the season. He still needs to add some muscle to his frame.

5.) Cam Tatum played on a complete garbage team. Based on tonight, McRae looks to be the better offensive player.

Go Vols!

McRae was just lighting it up. He made like ten 3's and did sick dunks that kept messing up the rim. If he continues to be that explosive then he'll serve UT good. Hall looked lazy...as usual. I don't understand how he was 1st pick. Maymon and Trae were hilarious and good. I'll tell ya, JP Primm better go to the NBA...that guy is so exciting

Primm's really good. I don't know if he's NBA level, but he rattled off around 20 straight tonight. It was very impressive.

He was just cutting through everyone and he's quick. He could compete I think

Whoa whoa whoa whoa....Law, did we not have one of the most epic arguments last year about conjuring observations from RTL? Forgive me if it wasn't you, but I thought you said you could determine absolutely NOTHING from RTL. It was even explicitly stated that it is impossible to determine if if a player can run fast or jump high from watching them play in the RTL.

Maybe it was BVF or NYY, but either way, I appreciate the informed opinion from the RTL. I usually make most of the games, but I've only seen two this year unfortunately. I got the same impression about Hall. I've noticed that he likes that close-to-mid-range fade away jumper, and it will be a great tool if he can utilize it effectively this season.

How about the freshman Quinton Chievous and Josh Richardson - thoughts on them based on there play at the RTL?

Based on impressions before seeing them play have they proved anything to anyone - does anybody see them having an active role with us next year?

I did not make a game this year but based on articles they have made some strides.

Wake me up when anything that happens in the Rocky Top League (other than injury) matters.

Thanks for the update. Like Dooley mentioned re: the football team, the same applies to bball. These guys especially the young players just need to continue to progress. Sounds like Golden is doing just that.

The player Tennessee needs to progress the most might be Kenny Hall. Mostly on defense, and that means puttin on some more pounds.

I have stated that you can't project how a player will do in the SEC from the RTL. However, you can tell if their skillset has improved and what type of shape the player is in. That is about all that can be done. Notice I didn't say that McRae was going to average 20 ppg next year based on what I saw.

I was disappointed in Kenny Hall. He showed little to no effort offensively. He didn't play very hard, but did rebound quite well. If he shows the same effort for the Vols, I expect the new post players to get some quality minutes next season. Golden looks like he could become our best point since CJ Watson. McRae can score and has great athletic ability. Maymon plays hard and should contribute next season. Woolridge scored well and shot the ball well, but I don't know where he can play next season. His skill set doesn't seem improved as he doesn't seem to have the skill needed to play post or wing. The freshmen looked like freshmen and I don't expect them to be major contributors next season. If they are, we may be in serious trouble. Richardson is athletic and can go to the hole, but doesn't seem ready for prime time. He could develop into a decent D1 player.

Chievous drove to the basket alot and was pretty physical. Couldn't tell much from Richardson

Ok, I last year I was making observations EXACTLY like the ones you've described and I was shot down by one of the VN gangs multiple times. Even after acknowledging that it couldn't possibly translate to SEC or even NCAA play.

Per other reports, Golden appears to be bigger and have added some muscle. :dunno:

A lot of depends on what the matchups are. If Woolridge is going against some of the LMU kids, then you can't make much of a evaluation. Kenny Hall guarded him. Dane Bradshaw guarded Golden. That, while still being less than a good evaluation, lends a little more that can be gleaned from this League.

So what will be the starting lineup this year and the 2nd team?

PG Golden/ Wespun
SG McRae/ McBee
SF Tatum/ Chievious
PF Maymon/ Swiper
C Hall/ Frosh Big

Does that look about right?

I like your lineup except for Chievous. He will probably be 3rd SG. I like Richardson for 2nd SF. I've been trying to gather speculations of one of our freshmen bigs to start. In my mind, we're capable of putting a tall or short lineup on the floor.

Granted it's from Griff, this is a quality report of the RTL. Good stats too. He should work on the RTL website. It just got put into effect in time for the last night. Without a schedule. Go figure #imbeciles

Also, the site has team R. Larry Smith labeled as Ray's ESG. Wtffffffffffff RTL site developers????

Griff is complaining that Josh Richardson doesn't look like a lock down defender in the summer league. Let me repeat that: In a summer league where a player is averaging almost 50 points a game, Griff is *****ing that someone doesn't look good on defense.

That looks about right to me. It most likely will be a 7 man rotation according to Martin. And, I think the 7th man will play pretty limited minutes. He referred to it as a 6 and a half man rotation I believe.
