I was thinking back on the OU game last year and realized that it was the closest I can remember to the old days when Rocky Top was a place to be feared and the fans held it has a holy temple to worship the football gods of Neyland, Majors, Fulmer, Manning, Wilson, Berry and White. When I walked up to that holy ground for the first time I was 6 And I heard the sweetest sounds my ears have ever heard. It was rocky top bellowing out a hour before game time. It was to be know as the "tale of two halves". My parents wanted me to see the "Great" Peyton Manning bet Florida and lead us to the promise land of football glory. But, to no avail Manning walking away with a loss is burned into my memory forever lasting.
Two years later I came back to Neyland at the age of 8 to see Tee Martian and the Vols play Florida. As I walked up a hour before kickoff I heard that tune again echoing out of the holy ground that we worshiped every Saturday in the fall, it sounded as if angels was singing throughout Knoxville. It was the first time I can remember my hair standing on its ends and the flow of adrenaline rushing through my body as if my body knew today was "Our Day" that this is the time we get to the promised land. We all know what happened in 98 when the goal post came down in Neyland to the jubilation of the fans.
This past year is the first time I've walked up to Neyland and heard the Choir of the House of Neyland bellowing out that sweet tune like the days of old. My hair standing on end and the adrenaline pumping. I was thinking to myself "Rocky Top is Back!!". Much to my chagrin we fell short in the game but the fans lived up to my expectations.
Not saying this year is our year or anything like that, but I do like the progress the team has shown and the fans are reflective of that. Butch is the man for the job I believe, Dobbs is the leader we need. All this negative news is just jealous people trying to dull our shine. I do believe it is Tennessee's time to shine this year with the amount of talent and coaches we have. I'm really excited with the progress made. As a fan "Rocky Top is BACK!!!"
GBO!!!!!
