Rock Band

Rockband: Due late 2007

A new game from Harmonix and produced by EA Games is going to try and outdo Guitar Hero II and Singstar by focusing more on multiplayer. How? Check this out!

-Available instruments: Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals
-4 player online and offline multiplayer (as in, you can create a band over Xbox live!)
-MTV have partnered in, meaning less cheap covers! It will have actual songs by bands including Nirvana and Wolfmother.

This game sounds unreal! I've had a great time playing Singstar when I'm drunk, and I've heard nothing but great things for Guitar Hero, so putting them all together should be awesome!

But how much is all the equipment gonna cost?

Rockband will be available on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 later this year.

Guitar Hero 3 with online play has also been announced.

Sounds great. Love GH2. The wife is even rocking out now.

In an interview with IGN UK, Red Octane co-founder and president Kai Huang not only reconfirms that Guitar Hero 3 is headed for the Wii, 360, PS3 and PS2 (information that was found and subsequently pulled from RO's site last week), but also says that the much-speculated-upon Wii version will in fact use a guitar-shaped controller peripheral instead of solely relying on the Wii standard controllers. He also revealed that the Wii version will have downloadable content and even mentions "online play," although whether this means active online play with other people or passive online leaderboard activity (as in Guitar Hero 2 360) is unclear. [Updated: See below]
This would be the first Wii game that allows for a microtransaction to add new content to an existing game.
From the IGN UK article:
While the development team is still exploring innovative ways to use the remote, Kai Huang told us: "We are really excited about the Wii game because there are so many options for the Wii remote. However, you will play the game with a guitar peripheral and it will be similar to a guitar you've seen in the past."

He also confirmed that Guitar Hero III on Wii contains features included in other versions of the upcoming game—such as online play and downloadable music.

Many had assumed downloadable content would be present in the PS3 and 360 versions of GH3 but were unsure if the Wii version of GH3 would follow suit. Kai Huang's words show that all current-generation consoles will be able to squeeze all of the rich, chocolatey goodness out of the upcoming Guitar Hero installment. For those about to rock ... we salute you. /Lunker
UPDATE: GameSpot is reporting that according to Kai Huang in another interview, there will be both co-op and competitive online play for all versions of Guitar Hero 3 and there also will be wireless controllers.

Got a second guitar yesterday. It was fun playing co-op with the wife. You can both select different levels to play, which makes it great. I can play hard and she can play easy.

YouTube - Rock Band (The Game) First Gameplay Video

Gamespot has snagged some of the first footage of Rock Band in action and it plays out like a funeral precession for Activision's Guitar Hero 3. History has shown us that when it comes to mockin' out (see what I did there?), a high price point is not an issue. Rock Band is going to own your soul this Fall. Resistance is futile.
There's not much more I can say about this that the video doesn't already say for itself -- the drum peripheral kicks major ass, the game appears to contain (I could be wrong, but it sounds good to me!) a studio master of Guns N' Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle," and I just about crapped my pants I'm so excited.

I'm being patient with this one. Thankfully, we have NCAA 08 and Halo 3 to distract us.

If GHIII can get Led Zep on board, that would be cooler. IMO

the drums, guitar, bass, and mics sell seperately for like 39-49 dollas... ouch

I saw on some website the other day a pre-order for instruments...I only found the guitar and drums, and they cost $79.99 each. So with the game and sales tax, you are looking at about $150 just to play by yourself with one instrument. I would want at least 2 instruments, and I can't see myself dropping that kind of money on one game.

If you throw alot of parties or have roommates, it might be worth it.

Your entry point will be less than $100 with a guitar. Drum package I could see being a bit more pricey. Still, for the 30-40 hours I'll get out of it, and the 30-40 hours I'll get out of the Rock Band 2, I'll happily pay it.

No doubt this will be one of the most expensive games ever when it said and done, especially with all the downloadable add-ons.
