^^^Stop looking from a fan's point of view.........

Success is all about consistency and work ethic......which happens to be where Meachem is questionable

A man that won the hiesman a year ago & only had two losses in his carrer & a couple of national championships to go along with that barely got in the top 10 & your telling me Meachem might be in the top 10? I dont know what to say to that. He better start catching some balls!

No one but the person who wrote the article, Randy Moore, is telling you this. This is a discussion about that article... not people telling you Meachem will get drafted in the top 10.

Like several other posters, I think that Meachem needs to check his dreams of being a top 10 NFL draft pick next year at the door and concentrate on proving that he actually deserves to be in the Vols' starting lineup each Saturday this season.

i thought scott was a track star/converted football player? but i know what you mean about dropping balls.

i think last year it was hard for one receiver to steup with the offense as bad as it was and an offensive scheme that is predictable as ever.

a lot of eyes on the vols next year and a ton of pressure.

With Coach Cutt back, we will be a much different team. Our offense rocked when Cutt was at the helm. Since we have gotten rid of Colonel Sanders, which is headed off to Kentucky I think. Now with that being said, we will know each and every play that Kentucky is going to run, they will be very predictable.

Other than the fact that: 1) We've been running Cutcliffe's offense for the past 15 years; 2) Cutcliffe was not exactly thought of as a gunslinger when he left for Ole Miss; 3) Randy Sanders is not calling the plays at Kentucky . . . I agree with everything you said.

Well, if he drops key passes then he isn't really that good, is he?
I just don't understand it at all. I watched this kid in Oklahoma hs ball go up in crowds of DB's and come down with it, greedy for the ball. What hands he had....can you just lose ability?

LOL

I know it's not a popular opinion, but IF Randy gets to the point of calling plays, I think a lot of people would be shocked. I support Fulmer, but a lot of what people complain about with our offense, is HIS doing, not Sanders'. I wish Randy luck. He's been a lot more loyal to our program than most of it's "fans".

I would venture to say that SEC dbs pack a little more punch than OK hs dbs. Hopefully he and Ainge and the other WR's are getting together to work on timing this summer. It seemed to me that the offense was always a half step out of sync last yr.

yeah I know when he got to college the DB's are better but so shouldnt he mature as well in his physical and athletic abilities? I think you have a great point about the timing.

I would hope so but maybe that extra punch has slowed his maturity a bit, hopefully he'll have a "growth spurt" in that area. We need a wr to step up and be the man this yr. Meach hasn't proven to be that ,yet :cross:

Great. That is all we need is more overhyped press for our WR crew. It did us a world of good last season. Let him prove his game on the field. He hasn't shown in a game the proof that he should start.

I know these sports writer buffoons have a hard time coming up with something to write about week after week. This one takes the cake for overstatement, however. I hope he is right about the boy's prospects but I see nothing in his previous performances to warrant such hyped press or blown-up expectations. I don't doubt that the boy has the ability but ability without performance usually doesn't lead to High Draft Pick Status.

Last year, I didn't see a receiver on our squad that i believe would have any possibility for playing on Sunday. They probably could and hopefully they will live up to our expectations this year.

For sure they have to perform better this year than last. There is no way that our receivers could perform worse.

Actually, I expect to see a much better team on the field this coming year. I think discipline and hard-nosed football has return to Big Orange Football.

No. The ability should still be there. Catching the ball is all about the desire.

We all know Meachem can play against SEC defensive backs. And the timing would help, but there were times last year when Ainge threw great passes and the receivers made little/no attempt to grab the ball, even if it hit them in the numbers.

Now Cutt may have not been viewed as a gunslinger but he had a wonderful balanced attack. We have not had a consistent aerial assualt since Tee Martin left, damn near 9 years!

He has not proved that to me yet, not on a regular basis, flashes now and again.

I know, just saying (to the subject of the thread) that if he can't hang with SEC dbs then he's toast in the pros(if he made it)

I agree. I'd like to see some freshmen and sophomores get an opportunity to play; dropping passes, anybody can do that.
