Robert Gillespie will be retained

The stable of running backs he has recruited, produced, and developed is good. This also lets some established relationships have continuity. He was the best coach on the previous staff IMO.
Not even debatable. Great recruiter / great developer. Very happy he is staying!

He is assembling one of the best recruiting staffs in the country before his damn presser! Love it.

we blame Butch for holding Kamara back....couldn't break into starting lineup!

How much blame should Gilissipi carry..was it all on Butch?

I personally don't think so. I think they both missed on that one!

Kamara says Gillespie was the whole reason he was able to make it to that next level and be in the NFL so no...I don't think its on Gillespie. I'm freaking happy Pruitt saw the value in keeping such a great coach.

I think Butch was rewarding his first prized in-state recruit (Hurd) with the starting position.

I am impressed!!!

Smart enough to wait for the Tennessee job, and smart enough to keep the best coach on the previous staff. Pruitt is 2 for 2!

Love it. When it comes to RB coaches it doesn't get much better than Coach G.

Anyone know why Gillespie has wanted to stay? I'm a little surprised.

maybe he doesnt want to uproot his family? he was our best recruiter on staff so I think everyone is very happy about retaining him, plus he is/was the recruiting coordinator so it helps with keeping our crootin class together. give the man a raise!

This is one of the dumbest things Ive read all day. Butch didn't start him because he made stupid promises to Hurd to keep him there (he was considering transferring after his Soph year if you'll remember).

That's 100% on Butch.

Now we need a ringer for DL coach.

I also heard rumors of Lance Thompson coming back to Tennessee![/QUOTE

My faith in the defense would be restored if I saw Lance back out there. He is an amazing coach. And I can't begin to explain how happy I am too hear that coach G is sticking around.

Butch had a history of pushing some kids holding others back. Just take a look at some of the weenies we had pushed around on our OL for years that played before others that were marginalized. We started a guy that could barely stand up and had DLs running by him literally at will during out VT/NASCAR game while Boulware sat the bench. We need that kid to come back to Rocky Top. That's just one example, they were all over the place the last 4 years at least. How did we not find a way to get a playmaker like Evan Berry the ball for four years except as a kickoff returner??
