many of the top nfl vols i.e. albert haynesworth were only decent at best while at ut

that is ridiculous. Fat Albert and Big John were basically the best 2 DTs in the nation in 2001-02

It's not entirely fair to consider Gholston a bust thus far. His rookie year may have been a bust, but let's give him some more time before we give him the bust label. If we titled people as busts after their rookie seasons, Albert Haynesworth would've been a bust. Also, he was learning a new position because he was a 4-3 end in college moved to 3-4 olb in the pros.

he will never excel in that system

he's another perfect example of a vol with unlimited potential that was never realized by the previous regime, but will go to the pro's and play in the pro bowl

Under the Fulmer Regime you are exactly right, but times have changed.

GO VOLS:rock:

I still have to pinch myself when I realize Monte runs our D now.

Nice avatar, love that show. My favorite quote is when Rusty asks his father if it is true that everybody has something special within themselves. Early then tells Rusty: "Boy ain't nothin' inside you but organs and farts."

Just another very strong evidence for what I've argued concerning Chavis. Good at development. But can't coach a game. Ayers is just the latest example of guys whose performance was held back/obscured by Chavis game coaching incompetence and "philosophy".

I think much of Ayers appeal is that he can occasionally go inside as well as play DE. He also made a lot of athletic big plays during his last two seasons so he's shown it on the field. I think he's at lease locked up a day 1 pick which is great.

While I don't agree that Haynesworth was "decent at best" the guy does have a point.

Ayers is yet another example of seemingly very talented players that never got to show their stuff until they were a senior or in the pros even. Meachem and David Martin are both other prime examples who didn't seem to be utilized until later than they should have been. How long would it have been before Peyton Manning played barring injuries?

Omar Gaither is another example that comes to mind. It seems to me like he has been more productive in the NFL than in college. I remember him being decent at UT, but not until late in his career, and I certainly never pegged him as an NFL contributing player based on his UT career. And I think he was either a 4- or 5-star recruit.

Brandon Warren is the latest example of this unfortunate Fulmer technique of not dealing with young talent inappropriately. They guy was all-Freshman ACC, then he comes here and all of the sudden he "can't learn the system!!" Give me a freakin break!!!

I don't think Eric Berry's situation is a good counter to this argument either. Any one who knows anything about football would have to let this guy play.

Fulmer clearly favored senior players with less talent over some underclassmen who should have played. Maybe not all the time, but definitely to a fault. Sounds like Kiffin wants to change that, which I'm all for. :good!:
