For those of you who've been to an Ole Miss/UT game, how many Vol fans usually show up?

There will be plenty of Orange in Oxford. Hit the Grove for pregame. Dinner spot is City Grocery, and there are other hot spots around "The Square." My wife (an Ole Miss grad) and I will be there...but in two different colors!

Coming from an Ole Miss alum....City Grocery is usually booked months in advance for football season. You might be able to get into Old Venice or Ajax if you're lucky. If you want something good in Oxford, Bofield's on West Jackson is a good spot and not as busy as other places. Other than that the food in the grove should be more than substantial. Plenty of bars to hit up Levee, Roosters, Library, Funky's etc. If staying for a late night be sure to visit the Chevron on South Lamar for chicken on a stick. Tupelo or Southaven is the place to stay. GBO

Seems like there is going to be a good sized group of UT fans, should be a great time..
Definitely going to have to meet up with some of you down there. Trying to see if I can get a large grill welded in time, to take down with me.

Since my daughter is a student at Ole Miss my wife and I will be there. Ole Miss has loyal and long suffering fans. Let us (UT fans) be classy, win or lose, before, during and after the game unlike the Bammers who ridiculed and belittled the Rebs and their fans afterward.

P.S. If you eat at The City Grocery as Kiddiedoc suggested, I recommend the shrimp and cheese grits and the chicory coffee.

I have been to Oxford 4 or 5 times but never seen my Vols play there. Alabama, LSU, Memphis a few times, etc. Been there more times than I can count for work.

I will be there this year. I would stay in Southaven/Memphis over Tupelo. That's just me though. I live just outside Memphis so that isn't an issue for me.

For those looking for somewhere to setup/park, try the field/parking lot behind the outfield of the baseball stadium. LSU took it over in 2005. It is literally a 3 minute walk to the Grove and 5 minutes to the stadium.

I've went to a couple of games with my sis and what we do is park at the mall across from the campus and walk to the grove to meet up with her friends who always have a tailgate set up

I made this trip from CT back in 2004 and Saw Ainge and a passing attack save the day. This is a great experience. Luckly my parents retired to Southaven, ms about an hour from Oxford....you know I am making the tirp down there again this year and next year at Memphis. The grove is insane and the fans are actually respectful down there. God I wish this type of football would catch on in Connecticut:popcorn:

My son and I are heading down. We are going to stop and visit Shiloh on Thursday and head on down Friday. Where is everyone staying? I have sat around too long and am having a hard time finding a hotel in Oxford. I was thinking about Tupelo?

Shiloh is a very fun place to visit.

I'll actually be in Oxford Saturday for the Ole Miss/UAB game (Go Blazers). Its Homecoming for Ole Miss so it should be pretty fun. This thread has answered some questions for me, thanks guys.

but, what do you do for fun before the game if you're the only one of age in your group and the rest of your group doesn't drink period?

Words of advice to all the men planning this trip with their wives/fiances/girlfriends that have not been before -

Wear sunglasses at all times (even if it's cloudy say there is a glare that is hurting your eyes) and keep a cup in hand at all times to put to your mouth when your jaw drops.

was there in '04 for ut win. is a great atmosphere in every respect. however, the one thing that i found terribly annoying is when the PA guys says, "first down" and the crowd responds, "ole miss". took about 2 times before i was ready to strangle someone. fortunately, w/monte at the defensive helm and w/the boys being merciless on that side of the ball, you shouldn't have to hear that very much.

That is annoying but they aren't the only stadium to do that.

I participated in a Grove tailgate several years ago--and it was fantastic. Here's the thing, tough: One adult from the Oxford family I stayed with got up at something like 5:30 a.m. on game day to claim a spot on the grounds. I want to say they let people set up their tables, etc. starting at 6:00 a.m. Not sure if that's still what they do, but something to think about...

It appears now that I have a bunch of old friends that are going to be attending the game..thanks everyone for the info so far.
Anyone know if you can park the night before? If thats the case even an early game wouldnt cut into setting up and cooking.
At this point there should be at least 8 of us tailgating together, so it should be a great time. When its closer to the day of the game hit me up if you want a place to hang out.

6AM--are you serious? I may not even go to bed till 3 AM! I better just stay up and head over to the tailgate area to reserve some space for our group!
