Riyahd Jones sighting??

Coleman and Sutton are some of the most sure tacklers at corner I've seen wear orange in a while.

I don't think Coleman has regressed. Seems to be our best option at corner, but in a deep secondary he'd be covering the slot rather than the 1 and 2

If Gaulden comes in and shows as much promise as Sutton, it'll show in Colemans performance as well

Sutton one of the best true freshman in the country in the secondary.

FYI. This is what CBJ about Jones on 10/10 media session.

(on Riyahd Jones being ready to play)
“I met with him this morning. We will see if he can play. He has to take great steps in moving forward this week in his preparation, intensity, and practice habits. He wants to play. We will see how he practices this week, and how he develops.”

It looks like he is healthy, but no putting it all together in practice. I may be reading too much into CBJ's comments.

Please detail how you "know" that. If he was an "instant upgrade" then he would have instantly started.

A lingering egg fart is an instant upgrade to Coleman. At least the WR won't stay on his route when the stank hits. Go back and watch number last years Mizzou game. It won't take long to see all of the huge plays he gives up. I can't believe that there's not one single player on the sidelines that's not better than him.

He was an "instant upgrade" because he was listed as the starter finishing up fall camp but then suffered the blood clots in his calf and has had to sit out. soooooo.....

Coleman is better suited to play Safety IMO He just doesn't have the speed to play CB effectively . We need someone to step up ,but maybe that's not gonna happen this year . On the bright side , as someone mentioned Justin is an excellent tackler so there's that

go back and look at bubble screen on first Bama TD. Miller is chasing Cooper down sideline and Coleman is behind Miller. Coleman never caught up to Miller and Cooper pulled away from both. Distance stayed same between 27 and 80.

Unfortunately, that is a rather consistent trait of our defensive backs.. slow..

Justin Coleman is the one of the biggest 5* busts, Im sorry. Brent Vinson was the exact same thing...hell..aren't they both from VA?

He wasn't listed as a starter when he went out. He had been passed by Sutton. He was never listed as a starter ahead of Coleman.

Except... no one is replacing him yet. So your answer while not quite as funny as you probably think... doesn't answer the question or even start to.

Coleman is starting. I never read a report in August that indicated anyone was pushing Coleman in spite of his supposed physical limitations. The battle was for the other spot. Jones exited spring as the starter. By the time he went out with injury, Sutton had taken over.

Reading is fundamental. If you would have bothered reading all the posts before yours, the young man has been injured due to blood clots. So regardless if his talent level, no coach in his righting would put the kids health in jeopardy by playing him until cleared.

I agree with you that he does tackle well but getting burnt deep happens way to often.

It is always the case on most teams that you need at least 1 lock down corner....(Sutton is that guy). The design of the other corner is for him to be a cover corner. Meaning to keep it under the line (first down) and let the free safety pick up the slack. Our safeties look good but the play vs. S. carolina (bomb) and Alabama (all alone on endzone) is on the safety. Justin is in because he will sure tackle a reciever or back on coverage plays. I can't wait til we get someone else with Randolph. They need to bulk up McNeil and move to LB. Use Cortez and Kelley back there next year.

Now with Gaulden and Sutton......Our defense is going to have some fun!!!! Excited about the future.

I don't think Coleman has played bad this year. Yes he has been burnt but I think he's done a pretty good job at being in position to make plays. He's a pretty good tackler too. I ain't mad at him. Nobody's perfect. To me this is like winning a million dollars in the lottery when the powerball is worth 100 million. Unlike some of you, I'm gonna be happy with the million instead of complaining about missing out on the powerball. Jmo.

I didn't mean to insinuate I thought Colman should be replaced. I was really thinking maybe we could plug him in somewhere...maybe nickel. Especially if anyone else gets hurt. What I gather is maybe Jones isn't all he was made out to be. Now, I watched Gaulden play last week. He is very good. Interestingly enough Vic Wharton played right corner. Wharton looks like he could play on offense or defense and be a standout.

I don't really get the deal with Coleman. He showed a lot of promise as a true freshman. He seems to have regressed.

Hey, he will tackle on occasion. That's more than you can say about volnations favorite safeties.

Yes it is... you might want to re-read the post I responded to.

The response was to the claim that he was an "instant upgrade" to Coleman. Nothing at all to do with the mgt of his injury. Jones never challenged Coleman for a starting job. He may have more talent... and speed. I don't know. But if he were an "instant upgrade then he would start instantly.
