If you look at the list closely, you'll see that the players who are signed to go somewhere other than UT are at positions that we DON'T need right now. We don't need to settle for in-state OL (and WR's) when we're going after bigger and better prospects, and a lot of the RB's on that list don't fit our offense. I'm happy with where we sit right now.

Our fence around the state sucks. Evidently, it's the type of fence that keeps our recruits out!

Batey is way underrated at 24. I saw this kid at the UGA Nike camp and he was very impressive. And from what I hear, he put on a show at the elite camp in Oregon as well. Not sure why we didn't push harder for this kid.

Unlike most, I'll concede we lost Kimbrow. Other than him, who have we lost that we wanted.

I'm not an insider, but I would venture to guess that we wanted more than 1 out of the top 25 in our state. If my 1st glance was correct, there are 15 commitments to BCS programs in that list, and I believe we got the best 1, but he's still just 1. We didn't want Jovon Robinson (I know grades may be an issue, but that didn't stop Auburn)? Caleb Azubike plays a major position of need, and was garnering some pretty serious attention, we didn't want him?
Having said this, I'm not a negavol, I'm fine with how things are going, but I think we do need to do a little better in state, if nothing else to build relationships with players and coaches for future, more talent rich years.

For all the complaining on here recently about in state kids going elsewhere who off this list has been a big miss for Tennessee? I would consider Bars a miss unless we land Humphries. Smart recruiting is about recruiting to needs and I don't see any DL or LB'ers on this list that I would call misses. As far as Kimbrow I don't care if he's #1 on this list or not I would take a big WR with skills over a speedy "athlete" anyday. How many times have you see 4-5* athlete types that bust at the college level because there speed is their skill and it get's nullified by the SEC. I've never seen Kimbrow play so he may be different but still I would much rather have Bowles. What I have seen of Kimbrow was off the field and I think he has some work to do there. I do wish we could have got in on Jovon Robinson but I don't really blame CDD for that one. It looks like CDD didn't like the risk/reward with him but if Auburn get's him qualified he may be a really nice college back. What about Baron did we miss on him? He doesn't appear to be highly rated but I tend to trust a solid program like Virginia Tech's evaluation over rivals.

btw, just for the record I will never consider anyone that commits to Vandy as a miss. Anyone that was being recruiting by other SEC schools but chooses Vandy instead doesn't care about winning and/or is afraid of competition. No one has ever signed with Vanderbilt thinking they would be playing in the SEC championship game within four years (or decades).

Our success as a football program does not depend on our recruitment of TN football players. There are definitely gems here, though.

How are we going to seriously pursue Azubike when there are multiple guys on our board more talented than him?

This won't make the state homers happy, but we haven't lost anyone we wanted (other than MAYBE Kimbrow). I've said this over and over: even though in-state recruiting should be a priority (which by all accounts it has been), UT football should not be a charity. The staff have offered who they wanted and who they thought were good enough, obviously. I think Eric2096 (#'s?) posted a refined list earlier that looked good. Jelks, Redmond, Dawson, and Mathers. We've offered them, so we obviously have interest. I wouldn't expect any more in-state offers after Cody Blanc. Just about everyone has been evaluated by the staff.

EDIT: I look forward to seeing the progress of the DE out of Woodale. I think his name is Mitchell (same HS as Robinson).

Cody Blanc will end up with a better offer list than over half of the TN Top-25.

Yep, I think Ben Still has some better offers than some of those kids as well.

Either way, there is some pretty decent talent in the state this year.
