49 seems about right for right now, but I don't think it's out of the question that our ceiling could be a lot higher.

This part is spot on to me.

E BEST-CASE SCENARIO: First off, FS Janzen Jackson returns. Then, QB Tyler Bray proves that his strong play down the stretch last season was a sign of a maturing star, and he develops a kinship with young WRs Da'Rick Rogers and Justin Hunter that gives the Vols a solid all-around attack. The Vols also remain injury-free along both lines and legitimately challenge for the SEC East title, winning nine games and returning to a January bowl.

THE WORST-CASE SCENARIO: Jackson doesn't return, Bray doesn't improve and the lack of depth comes to the fore. In that scenario, the Vols actually could lose to Kentucky for the first time since, what, 1923?

We are 1 for 1 on the Best Case Scenario so far!

I really can't get too fired up about this when we are coming off of a 6-7 season, are mostly underclassmen, and haven't played a down this season yet. I'll be annoyed if we go on a tear the first four games of the season and still aren't adequately ranked. But right now, meh.

The nice thing about being the SEC is that the rankings will take care of themselves if you win.

So true. Where was Auburn ranked at the beginning of last year? For most of your big conferences if you win, you'll be ranked highly.

Yeah I remember a few years ago we were preseason #2. That didn't hold up to good.
