Rivals.com College Football - SEC preview: Will title streak be deep-sixed?

Looks about right regarding Tennessee, especially the unit rankings.

Biggest contradiction... All 5 analysts have Kentucky LB Danny Trevathan leading the SEC in tackles yet have him on 2nd team All-SEC

merge if necessary...

Our WRs and OL are a lot better than the bottom third of the league. That's why pre-season polls do not matter because no one knows how much progress is made by a player after each year.

No Oline depth!? I argue we have a top 5 online in the SEC

Yeah I wouldn't say depth is a big problem for us. Schofield and possibly Bullard will not be starters. That says a lot about how good our depth is.

No doubt OLine is low for UT. We return starters at every position, plus have Jackson/Bullard and we're ranked below Florida, with two returning starters and tremendous depth issues (not mentioned here)? Looks about right for UT's OLine last year.

Also have some issues with Ole Miss coaching staff being above ours. We at least met expectations while they didn't and I'm pretty sure we embarassed them on the field.

Interesting reading and I definitely appreciate the info. But as with all projections like this, a grain of salt is necessary.

The starters are top 5 assuming they improve a lot over last year (which is a fair assumption for talented sophomores who got a lot of playing time as freshmen). But there really isn't too much behind them right now except more freshmen. You've got two quality guys who seem to be the backups for every position.

OL has A LOT to prove. They have great talent, but the running game was so so and the QB protection was atrocious last year.

I don't have too many major quarrels with the rankings. As for the coaching rankings, I am sure the knock on DD is his youth and inexperience but I like him better than several listed above him--Nutt, for example

Dont'a Hightower, Alabama (6-4/260, Jr.)
Courtney Upshaw, Alabama (6-2/265, Sr.)
Robert Lester, Alabama (6-2/210, Jr.)
Mark Barron, Alabama (6-2/218, Sr.)

Man Alabama's LBs and Safeties, are about the same size as our DTs and LBs.

:hi:Someone far wiser than I, once said: "An expert is someone who is 100 miles from home and has a brief case." Another wiseman said: "an expert is a has- been drip under pressure."

So, it's not hard to be an expert. What is hard, is for an expert to actually know what he/she is talking about.

I don't expect for us to be a really great team this year but I really believe we will beat the "expert's projections".

We really are a team full of question marks. All the talent we need to get things done and none of the previous experience to assume they will. That's true many years for many teams but for us it's nearly true across the board.

There will be many media people eating crow this year... but then again they do every year, I think I read an article a couple months ago that showed pre-season picks being wrong something like 80% of the time.

They just need something to talk about to get people to listen to their shows and buy their papers etc.. so they make up things half the time just to get people riled up.

Well...that's not a very reassuring assessment. Good thing preseason rankings are worthless. I agree that the OL and WR rankings are low.

Ole miss coaching staff ranked 7th, ahead of miss st, Tennessee, and Florida. Tells me everything I need to know about there so called expertise.

Houston Nutt has no business in front of anyone except the Commadork coach! Our OL has plenty of depth and not sure anyone has a better situation in the secondary. The recieving corps will be second to none soon and Tight End w/ Clear once he gets some experience will be solid. Coaching Staff should be higher rated, when you look at each position coach,Baggett,Hiestand,Sirmon,Thompson and Russell have very nice career stats. CDD as a head coach will be in the top 1/3 once he can get another class or two in the fold!
