Wharton and Gaulden became best friends at Independence, Gaulden and Barnett grew up together, Malone and Sawyers were great friends from long ago," he explained. They were all connected some way or another, but it all came down to Coach Jones' plan and a lot of hard work by the entire staff."

@patrickbrownTFP: quick note on Tommy Thigpen: he made $345k last year, which was 5th-highest on #Vols staff (behind both coordinators and both line coaches).

I'm happy for Thig, but let's not kid ourselves. ALL of our staff are ridiculously hard workers. The story about Coach Z going through what he did to get to Pearson just proves it. Placing over 250 calls on signing day to 2015 and 2016 classes states that these guys just do not stop. They are freaking ridiculous. I am thankful for each member of this staff. I hope they stay together for a long time. I hope the University is ready to give them the money needed as it comes due. Very impressed not only with Thig, but with all of the staff.

I appreciate the entire staff, but for recruiting, Tommy Thigpen has done an exceptional job this year. I don't know how many years we can hang onto him until someone makes him a huge offer, but while he is here I hope how he works rubs off on the rest of the staff. Not only do I think he has merited a substantial raise, but the title of recruiting coordinator.

My hope is that he wants to see the fruition of his efforts, and stays until he gets it.

everyone keeps saying to make him recruiting coordinator.. but I don't know if everyone is aware of all the extra work that would give him. It might be better to let him just fly out to places and be on the phone and not have to oversee all the tiny details like a recruiting coordinator is responsible for.

Agree. Recruiting Coordinator is NOT the job you give to your best recruiter. Thig cannot Thig from behind a desk. Just give him lots of money and let him do his thang.
