How in the world is Vanderbilt #11 in recruiting per Rivals right now? They have, according to rivals, only 2 - 4 star players committed.

Tennessee has 5 - 4 star commits right now and not even ranked in the top 25.

Is it just based on a total number of verbals in general? If so, that is just insane!!!!! So in theory a team can just have 26 - 3 star commits but be ranked higher than a team with lots of 4 - stars but lower total numbers?

Rivals sucks at evaluating players. They don't put as much effort as they use to. If you want to know how good our recruits are; just watch the film.

You just made a few hundred people's day on Vandymania.

Why? How? I thought they would be smart enough to know this doesn't make logical sense....

Surely they don't think they are really ranked #11 in the country and will end up #11 in real life.......

I think you'll find any Rivals recruiting class rating higher than #5 gets more nonsensical the higher you go. Their computer algorithm must be written by music majors.

What is the formula?

See below! Go ahead and use it! Who is your team's next commitment? How many points does he count for? Go ahead and start the debate!

Rivals Rating points + Rivals250 Bonus Points = Total Points

Rivals Rating (RR) Scale (Top 20 rated commitments)

(Rivals Rating = Points)

6.1 = 150 points
6.0 = 135 points
5.9 = 120 points
5.8 = 105 points
5.7 = 90 points
5.6 = 75 points
5.5 = 60 points
5.4 = 45 points
5.3 = 30 points
5.2 = 15 points

*Prospects without an assigned rating will count for no points. All FBS committed prospects will have a rating once evaluated and rankings are updated.

Here is how they figure the rankings...they add up these scores and then they have the team rankings...

So a team with (27) 3 - stars can be highly ranked? This makes no sense. I figured you would evaluate and rank teams based on quality and not quantity.............

I don't know how good their class is, certainly not 11th overall. But, they have commitments from 7 players we have offered.

In the past they would have been lucky to get 1 player we offered. Just goes to show how far we have slipped since 2009.

This type of smack talk would make a lot more sense had Vanderbilt not just kicked our teeth in last month.

Pretty sure they take the average of stars and # of commits to get their rating. Keep in mind that there are different levels of stars (low 3*=5.5, High 3*=5.7) so if you have 14 3* that are high ratings (5.7) that will be a better class than 14 3* low ratings (5.5). It's the same with 4 * (5.8-5.9) and 5* (6.0-6.1). We may have a few low 3* and 4*, Vandy has a few more high 3 and 4 *. At least that is my guess.

That's a little misleading. I only see 2 players that had committable offers from UT. It's a game but there are offers and there are committable offers. That said Vanderbilt has a very impressive class and not just for Vanderbilt. Dooley has set us back years in recruiting.

Where can you find a list of actual committable offers? I am just going by Rivals.

Um. UT sends out hundreds if not thousands of offers all over the country. Correct? Sorry is seven of the hundreds if not thousands have overlapped the two schools paths....

...and yet that doesn't change the fact that Vanderbilt was CONSIDERABLY better than us just LAST MONTH.

I dont care how many they won or lost in your life time.
You are typically as good as the last time you played and Vandy embarrassed our Vols and Franklin has out-recruited DD the past 2 years.That is where we stand hopefully Butch can bail us out.
