I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Stephens starting next season. It's probably the best plan for winning in 2010.

1) Ausmus can give Bray a booklet or packet containing ways to gain weight or get stronger, last i heard Bray was @ 200lbs. If he actually tries then he will be able to get 5-10lbs by Jan. Heck all the Holidays are coming up so you know he will have a chance to eat up. Once he is on campus he has 8 months to gain atleast 20lbs. If anyone out there thinks this kid cant gain 20lbs in 8 months your crazy! That basically comes down to adding 3 pounds a month, in a College S&C Program he will easily do that.

2) I also think Kiffin is allowed to give him a basic playbook so that he can just learn the easy stuff before he gets on campus, by the time January gets here Bray will already have the basic concepts down, given 8 months he will be ahead on learning the playbook

3) Lamaison is not the answer, Kiffin brought him in because he was basically the only QB that we could land that had enough experience to play incase Stephens & Crompton went down, he is on the team for depth purposes only. He will be lucky to even get to 2nd string while he is on campus. I see Bray becoming the starter next year with Stephens 2nd string Lamaison 3rd.

On a more serious note, I just looked at video of him as a junior and Crompton as a senior (in high school). I like him much more than JC. Hope that's not just Vol optimism.

I actually only live 1 hour 45 minutes away from him. I might steal away in 10 or 17 days and watch him play.

:)

I don't see all that much difference in him coming in his freshmen year and how Ainge came in. I think he'll be just fine as long as he's as good as I hope he'll be

The one thing I love hearing about Tyler is his upside and his accuracy. He will gain the muscle and speed. Any college program as long as the player follows it will make him a lot bigger. He may need a year under his belt but when 2011 and 2012 roll around. It will be great to be a tennessee vol!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Especially with this staff. Who knows who we will get in the next few years. Especially when a couple of 10 or 11 win seasons come around.

Shooter is absolutely correct. If either of the Nicks can go next year history says we will be much better off. I hope this kid doesn't have to come in and start.

FWIW the same was true of Lamaison this year.

Jacory Harris runs a 4.62

Tyler Bray runs a 5.45

William Brimfield OT runs a 5.00 and weighs 346 lbs.

Thats sad when you cant even outrun an offensive lineman

Huge difference

You keep talking about 40 times. 40 times mean nothing with QB's. Look at the NFL combine. Arm strength, accuracy, awareness, and savvy. Those are a lot more important. You don't have to run fast. You know that. You are just hoping the kid isn't any good so your cousin can play. Come’ on?

Not true..While i am lamaison homer, thats not the reason i'm concerned about this Tyler kid. He might be a good player in high school but i just dont think he has what it takes to come in and just take the job next year. Maybe in 2-3 years if he puts on some weight, but not next year. Doesnt make any sense to me. I will be the first to admit im wrong if it turns out different.
FYI: Lamaison is not my cousin

Bray may not be the "savior", but using his 40 time to guage his potential is worthless. He's a pro-style QB, not a scrambler. All he needs are good instincts, to know when to step up into the pocket, have a quick release, etc. In fact, a faster QB ends up getting sacked more often anyway becasue they try and run every time, failing to develop the instincts a QB needs.

Case in point, Michael Vick gets sacked at a much higher rate than Peyton Manning. So, I could care less if Bray runs a 5.0 or whatever (I seriously doubt he actually runs as slow as a 5.4) unless Kiffin starts running the option.

I thought his 40 time was innaccurate...and in reality it was more like 5.0? I don't have a link, I just thought I saw that on another thread.

Up to this point, Jacory has 4 rushing attempts for -3 yards.

Bray won't need to run a 4.62 to pull that off.

Why is everyone already doubting Lamaison? I understand we brought him in so we have 2 Qbs for spring ball. But I honestly believe that he is going to have his shot at starting after a year understanding the playbook. If Nick Stephens can not separate himself from crompton at all, then that tells me that he is not our 2010 qb. I believe the only reason why Lamaison is 3rd string is because he arrived on campus so late so of course he is not going to beat out crompton and Nick. For Bray he is going to get his shots too, but starting a freshmen in a very tough conference is going to be hard on him. We are going to be even more thin on OL next year so it will not be pretty for a freshmen QB.

Hope he lives up to potential
Good review, hope he lives up to his billing.

On the Hoof: Perhaps the tallest committed D-I quarterback prospect in the country but very lean at this time. The closest physical comparison would be N.C. State quarterback Mike Glennon.

Needs Improvement: Will need to add some muscle mass and strength while improving his overall foot speed.

Most Impressive: Bray is a very accurate quarterback that has excellent touch and can throw any type pass asked of him. He is also an intelligent player that will make the right reads and not throw into double coverage.

Conclusion: This quarterback may have the most long-term potential of any quarterback in the country. Bray is a tough competitor that sees the whole field and already has enough arm strength to make the tough throws.

People who watched Lamaison were not impressed with his throws. It was not a strong looking throw to the wrong place, it was a weak looking throw to the wrong place. Maybe understanding the offense more will result in more confidence and he will become a gun slinger.
