I posted this in another thread but he seems like the perfect candidate to red shirt. Does anyone think he will start right away? Just looking for some opinions.

Unless Lamaison becomes anything, or we sign another QB, Tyler Bray will be our starter from the first snap next year. I think CLK wants to play his guys and The Ginger Avenger ain't one of them.

Tyler Bray, after two games, is averaging 288 yards passing and 305 total yards a game. Kingsburg High is 2-0.

Adding to this, he gets pulled when his team has a lead, because Kinbsbury has another good senior QB that steals some snaps. QB/S Lacy is committed to UC-Davis.

Bray also has punted 3 times for a 30 yard average.

"You’ve got to be impressed with his arm strength, ability to throw the deep out with authority, poise and toughness in the pocket," MaxPreps' Tom Lemming said of Bray’s throwing ability.

We don't know that. I'd say starting day 1 is 50/50 at best.

I am excited about his upside as well...I dont think he will be ready physically for the SEC until Sophomore year probably..

I really like Bray. I think he will be a very good QB at UT.

However I do not believe he'll be the starter in 10 unless he has a near miraculous transformation of his body. He needs to be physically stronger both in the lower and upper body. This is beyond the obvious transitions between game speed and complexity when a QB goes from HS to college.

As for his speed, he's said to be a good athlete and basketball player. Some big kids like him take awhile to "unlimber" when they run but have decent top end speed. A good S&C program will make him quicker and probably faster.

We don't even KNOW that the kid is going to sign with us, I'm just speculatin' and I would be surprised if he doesn't start...i'm assuming that he signs, enrolls early, beefs up a bit, excels in practice, and does a good job of grasping the system.

Lets wait till he gets on campus before we declare him "the answer." Remember Scout and Rivals declared that Crompton was going to be great, and we all know how that has turned out so far.

Some recruiting analysts' comments from 2005:

"As a junior Crompton threw for over 2,300 yards, 23 touchdown passes and five interceptions. He carries a 3.5 GPA and bench presses 230 and has a 23-inch vertical jump."

Most of those were busts. Bad year for QB's.

That said, Thanks to the OP for the update. Bray looks like he could be what UT needs, but I had to bring up what Rivals/ Scout said about JC back in 2005 - reminder the recruiting "experts" are often wrong.

Tyler is too slow and too skinny and fragile. He will get broken in half in the SEC. Have you seen the size of the QB's in the SEC. They are solid.
Tyler needs to gain some weight but many kids no matter what you give them they just cant gain the weight.
Tyler is overrated right now. He had one good camp and a decent season.
He just looks good because Crompton looks so bad.
Lamaison will be the guy next year...

Its all about his head guys! Cromp hasn't worked out that well because he clearly does not make smart decisions in games, there is no problem with his physical traits.

Tyler Bray is what 17 or 18 years old and is already 6'6", how could he not be a little skinny. If Bray has a good head on his shoulders, his future has to be bright!:rock:

Im not saying he doesnt have a bright future but you have to look at the facts. He is slow and fragile. Putting on weight is not going to make you faster. He's a big risk. If he pans out it wont be for a few years..Not next year, thats for sure.

I know he is skinny but let's not just assume he is fragile. Croyle made it OK at Bama and he was pretty much a stick. They wear pads for a reason.

Got a question on this. Can our S&C coach suggest things Bray can do to get stronger and faster? Is this something he can do without being pnalized by the NCAA? If so, that would be a good way to get a head start on his physical issues.

Once he signs his NLI....that can be done!

Once upon a time, there was a QB at UT who was also a stick. He wore #16. I'd say he did OK.

There's lineman that run faster than him. What happens when he's under enormous pressure and tries to get away. He will be easy to catch and very vulnerable to getting hit. Then on top of that he's skinny...wow..you guys are all naive...

How often does a pro-style QB run 40 yards in a straight line during a game?

How often are there defensive ends chasing a qb down and the qb tries to get out of it?

The fact is he's slow! Then if he's not even faster then the guys chasing him then what?

It amazes me someone could be so negative about everything in the program.

I would bet we've had 1 qb in the last 15yrs that was faster than a typical SEC DE

Huh? What the heck are you talking about? What else have i said that is so negative about the program. Im talking about Tyler Bray. He is not the savior like people like you are making him out to be.

I think UT already has the qb of the future right in front of them, he's just there learning the system and getting ready....

yes..im talking about Lamaison

Looks to me like he's at least decent at escaping pressure. Give the guy a good O Line and some time to throw and I'm sure he'll be fine. Yes I know those stats are against high school talent, but it at least says he's more agile than his 40 time shows.
