I met him in 2003 in San Diego at a Super Bowl Party. I walked up to him, shook his hand and the only thing I could think of saying was "I love you man" - he started laughing and was very nice lol

This totally sucks. I knew he had been fighting this a long time. I had a feeling he wasn't doing well when Suzi about broke down when talking about him on a MNF pre game show a few weeks ago. Prayers to family and friends. He's really going to be missed :(

I guess you guys are of a different cultural era than I am...other than John Ward I don't put sports media people on a pedestal and I care zero for ESPN or Sportscenter...however with that said anyone regardless of who they are deserves sympathy if they die and leave young children...and cancer is nothing to wish on anyone.

I'm 28. Stuart Scott, via the SportsCenter desk, was in my home on almost a daily basis. When certain sports were less interesting to me, he made it feel more entertaining. I can credit at least part of my love of sports to the excitement that he made stir within me. There are two different ways to be affected in a deeply saddened way by the passing of someone famous: to have them on a pedestal and have them die, like a president, star athlete, or what have you; and to have it be a person who you feel like you welcomed into your home to the point that they became like an extension of your family. The latter is what Stuart Scott was to many of us. He wasn't on a pedestal, he was just a family guest who was welcomed into our homes on an almost daily basis.

Why should anyone involved in entertainment be put on a pedestal? It has never ceased to amaze me that you can put a camera or microphone in front of some guy, and he becomes important.

This isn't a criticism of the person in front of the camera or behind the microphone. It is a criticism of the people watching or listening to them.

I don't think anybody is putting anybody on a pedestal. For me, it is a couple of things:

1. A life cut short. With kids left behind with no father.

2. And this one more than the other. The genuine emotion you see from people who work with and cared for the guy. If you can watch that Rich Eisen piece and blow it off, then good for you.

It is no different than when I heard Eric Berry's diagnosis. I've never met him, but I know I'm pulling for him. And would still be pulling for him if he was a Gator or whatever or was an average Joe who lived down the street. It is called general compassion for your fellow man. And it is not a bad thing.

You apparently didn't comprehend what I wrote, because you are giving a straw man argument.

Geez people you are eaten up with it aren't you? No I'm not going to grab a hankie or personally lose any sleep over this...sorry to disappoint all of you. There are tons more people more important to me than this guy that have died that I will gladly shed a tear over... besides he was the major person out there touting his mouth against Peyton and for Woodson...but that aside I will say what I said before...cancer is no fun and the guy left a family out there so that in itself would lend my sympathy...now you can all climb down off the righteously indignit soapbox...and please put the internet tar and feather up...thank you.

Lots of people die with cancer...their lives are no less important than his...nor are they more important...as to EB he is a VFL...he is important to us for that very reason...tbch I never cared for Scott's arrogant style...and I heard he had made racist remarks off the cuff...that is his misfortune...still a human being is dead...why not look at it that way.

nothing has ever sounded more Tennessee backwoods than admitting that PART of the reason you don't feel worse about a man dying is the fact that a different future first-ballot hall of famer won the heisman over Peyton Manning

Stu meant different things to different people, why must you take this unfortunate opportunity to **** on him? If you don't like him then there was no real reason to read this thread.
