RIP Robin Williams

Tragic. Had I tried to make a list of those at risk of suicide, he'd have definitely been near the top of the list. He was nothing but a list of characters. It reminds me of what Brian Wilson dealt with.

He was most "present-day Robin Williams" in his guest appearance in SVU: a guy going through so much strife which he dealt with through the use of characters.

RIP

So sad that someone who brought so much laughter and joy to so many was hurting so horribly inside.

Well, said, Bill.

Sometimes things happen in this world that make me not able to think of anything to say.

Thanks, H. That's exactly where I am. All I can say is damn every time I think about it. Thoughts to all loved ones left behind.

This is a really interesting point. A man that dedicates his life to being someone other than himself may be especially at risk for this kind of depression. Also, may be unrelated, but Adam Carolla and Dr. Drew were commenting recently on their podcast that he had recently check back into rehab in Minnesota I think. Hard to know if depression was cause for self medicating, or if back sliding in sobriety may have caused the depression.

It's just such a sad thing to watch. I wouldn't be shocked if Will Ferrell has a similarly horrendous downswing in a couple decades. Never getting to be yourself has to be the most tragic byproduct of being a character comedian.

Battling depression

Why Robin Williams Returned to TV: He Needed the Money!

After two divorces, the actor, 62, says he doesn't have as much cash as he used to."The idea of having a steady job is appealing," he tells Parade in a new interview. "I have two [other] choices: go on the road doing stand-up, or do small, independent movies working almost for scale [minimum union pay]. The movies are good, but a lot of times they don't even have distribution."

Williams continues, "There are bills to pay. My life has downsized, in a good way. I'm selling the ranch up in Napa [Calif.] I just can't afford it anymore."

He once quipped, "Ah yes, divorce, from the Latin word meaning to rip out a man's genitals through his wallet."

He now tells Parade he hasn't lost everything from his splits (his marriage to Valerie Velardi ended in 1988; his 2008 divorce from Marsha Garces reportedly set him back more than $30 million). But he says he's definitely lost enough.

This is sad. He was a very funny man. My first thought of him is Mork from Ork in the Mork and Mindy show. He was great in Good Morning Vietnam. He will be missed.

RIP. The first movie I can really remember him being in was Jack. I was a kid then when it came out, and have been a fan of his ever since.

I was a devoted Mork and Mindy fan when it was on. He was funny and I had a little crush on Pam Dawber

He played the dad of the son that accidently killed himself by stragulation.

You know he had to think about his time on that movie if that he did go.

Gonna watch that one again. What was the name of it?

He was stunning in that as a dramatic actor as well as "Good Will Hunting"

He was brilliant.
