RIP Evel. I owe many scraped knees and torn blue jeans imitating you.

CLEARWATER, Fla. Evel Knievel, the red-white-and-blue-spangled motorcycle daredevil whose jumps over crazy obstacles including Greyhound buses, live sharks and Idaho's Snake River Canyon made him an international icon in the 1970s, died Friday. He was 69.

Knievel's death was confirmed by his granddaughter, Krysten Knievel. He had been in failing health for years, suffering from diabetes and pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable condition that scarred his lungs.

man, that sucks, I had this Evel doll, he sat on a bike that had this rip cord thing. you yanked it and then let it go. My mom used to freak because I scuffed up all the baseboards in our house with it. he was awesome.

Amazing that he survived that fall at Caesar's Palace....He was once on the cover of Time magazine under the headline "King of the Goons" for his Snake River stunt.....I remember having his windup motorcycle and action figure when I was a kid - by all accounts he was a first class jerk but you had to admire his guts...

Sad, I remember going to the Knox Coliseum years ago to watch him jump over the Snake River, was a disappointment, still think he pulled the chute early, but we'll never know.

I had that too and it came with an RV that had a ramp you could jump. One of my favorite toys when I was a kid. Sorry to hear that Evel is dead.

I love the interview he did on the Jim Rome show where Rome asked him some ridiculous question and E replies "Do you know who the hell I am?" Freaking awesome.

You have to respect a guy who will say what he means and do what he says, regardless of the consequencees.

No doubt. I read the funeral is next Monday. I still cant believe that they havent made that big of a deal about him on TV. But the guy did make some enemies... I remember him breaking some reporters arms or something.

Who didn't love Evel when they were growing up (assuming you were of the right age).

He was a legend and that wind-up motorcycle toy absolutely rocked!

They better open the gates really wide up there, because they need to make room for some HUGE cajones.

RIP. Knieval = MAN.
