Riley to USC…the inevitable Josh Heupel to OU freak out thread

Love these people who feel that their lives are so connected and impacted by what a college sporting coach’s decisions are. Some of these people act like Heupel decides whether they wake up or not each day
I agree that a person should be in firm control of how their “fandom” affects their life. With that in mind, if Heupel leaves for OK, I am going to take a 9 month break from Vol football and show up next fall to see what we’ve got. Danny will have to figure it out without me!

Heupel apparently had some bad blood with OU after he was fired in 2014. Particularly since they brought Bob Stoops back to coach the bowl game, that might have re-opened old wounds. Bob easily could just have the job again, and you'd have to think that Mark Stoops is certainly a candidate. Brent Venables might be an option as well, as he also coached at OU from 99-11. Seems like he might even be the favorite:

Bottom line: it's a fun situation to watch, playing out in Oklahoma and California right now, but has nothing to do with us.
I sure hope you’re right. But as a Vol fan, I’ve seen enough drama over the past 10 plus years to last a lifetime. You may say this movie is a comedy playing only to the okies and cal, but its the kind of horror movie that tends to make it’s way to a theater near us. For now, I’m nervous till things shake out.

Freeze did comparable things at Ole Miss.
Kiffin got out coached here against UCLA, Ole Miss, and Virginia Tech. He left our program in shambles and the NCAA with an active investigation that put us on probation. He was recruiting thugs that could not even rob a Pilot station without getting caught. He was hanging USC banners in our training facilities. And him leaving the program the way he did hurt the image of Tennessee football more than any other thing in our history. The character of the program was a direct result of the character of the head coach.

Butch had a better season in 2015 than Kiffin did in 2009. And I was never a Butch fan either.
Kiffin was also out coached by Heupel In Knoxville this year. Even with help from the refs he loses that game if Velus catches the punt.

I wanted Venables when we hired Pruitt. If he wants to be a head coach, I think he would be a great hire.

Heupel is going a great job; but if he leaves, he leaves. There’s more great coaches out there and Tennessee is a great place to be.

Yeah until we won vs Bama or Florida or UGA.

These people that say they’d rather lose with Bozo the Clown coaching vs winning with Kiffin coaching at Tennessee are full of sh!t.

PS- #HeupelStayingAtTennessee
I personally don’t like Kiffin as a coach. His ego is bigger than his coaching abilities. And that says a lot. We have the best coach right now. Praying he stays for a while.

The fact that Bob Stoops is just stepping right in tells me they have a plan. Either he's taking it back himself ala what Bill Snyder did at KSU after taking a few years off, or he's keeping the seat warm for Mark until UK's season ends. Bob supposedly talked to UF, so it seems he wants back in the game.

Having Bob Stoops around isn't going to appeal to Heupel. If he did leave for Oklahoma, I wouldn't hold it against him, but this would be a weird way for OU to initiate a pursuit of Heupel, considering they haven't spoken since the day Stoops fired him, and Heupel has thrown shade at him before.

Lane Kiffin would crawl 200 miles on broken glass to get back home… But Josh will be back, & we’re winning 9 games minimum next year. Till that day Josh leaves, Lane will be on the phone calling boosters begging to fix what he wronged here. Honestly, I hope he rots in Mississippi in agony till we forgive him. 💯

enough about kiffin, geesh, Hueple is the coach now, yet I Imagine you were or are still a huge Fulmer homer? such solid character-multiple, serious NCAA investigations including the preent one attached at the hip to Fulmer including 2 seasons of 3 at 5-7 led to the original fracture of the Vols image.

If they offer him the job, Heupel is gone. Heupel knows Vol fans will eventually get restless in a couple of years if he is unable to beat teams like Florida.

Are you calling Knoxville “home” for Kiffin?
