Riley Ferguson appears to be gone

good post! i think race played a factor in some folks wanting to see ferguson as well. especially over dobbs

Why play the race card? I didn't get that impression at all. The reports out of camp were that RF was "hot" in practice and a little more game ready. Of course, "some folks" could just be you and a pal.

I don't give the north end of a south bound rat what color they are. Get over that crap. If your the better man for the job I am sure Butch will have them on the field.

People play the race card when they have either no argument or a crap one. Intellectually dishonest or just not very bright.

UT had sufficient talent to give Mizzou a MUCH better game. Worley might have made a big difference though I won't throw stones at the O very much. The D is another issue. UT was badly outcoached by their OC.

UF was another potential win but I still respect Jones for taking a shot to see if Peterman could spark the O. Worley again might have done enough to give UT a chance. We'll never know.

They were outcoached. BADLY outcoached.

He's a good salesman. He's selling a "dream" right now. The problem is for that to work he has to win some games to validate the promises of better days ahead. I personally think this is a 6-8 win team this fall. Anything less IMO will be underachievement. But from a purely pragmatic standpoint... Jones NEEDS 6 wins this fall. He needs to be able to point to at least SOME improvement on the field to keep selling the "dream".

The caveat to this are the players who are leaving. There are a lot of sour grapes on here now... but NO ONE in their right mind wanted RF to leave the program. Many of the same folks are saying it doesn't matter than Brown and Carr are leaving or that they are just bad players or lack talent. Spin anyway you like it but when your QB position is still somewhat unsettled now but especially into the future... it isn't good when a talented RS Fr leaves. When you have a critical need for DL's, it isn't good when you lose a couple who have athletic talent. Alton Hill was classy as he left but at a minimum UT lost a solid ST's player.

What you do to get them... is usually what you have to do to keep them. Apparently these guys stopped believing in "the dream" or at least their future in it.
The staff outcoached UGA and S Carolina's staff. I want to see the talent on equal footing, with equal time in S&C programs before I start throwing around the outcoached term.

I heard that what really got Riley in trouble is when he borrowed Bajakian's 84 Impala, put really tall wheels and tires on it, and drove up to practice in front of Butch and yelled......"Hey yo....look at my donks ridin' 28's, yo." From then on, it went downhill.

Why is that? If they were outcoached... they would have been outcoached even if the players compensated for it.

I dont hate Riley Ferguson like some want to say about me. I do believe the evidence speaks for itself. I think it is very telling that one of the first things CBJ did when he took over was rush to go get Josh Dobbs to flip his commitment over to UT. I dont think CBJ was particularly impressed with Ferguson's skill or his attitude. And he Couldnt beat out Justin Worley for God's sake. He cant be that good. People on this board were so "high" on Ferguson mainly because he was the only QB that never got a chance to start last year and everyone was pinning their last best hopes on this kid. But CBJ didnt put him in, supposed injury or not.

Just because Alabama made him an offer doesnt mean they actively recruited him. How many other QBs did Bama offer?

The initial reports were that CBJ asked Ferguson not to come back. I dont think Ferguson was the initiator of the separation, even if he did have long standing doubts about competing for UT's QB position.

I believe CBJ is actively cleaning house. Dooley's players are realizing that this new staff actually can coach and know what good ballplayers look like. Its the end of the line for all these guys that UT recruited that had no business playing for Kentucky, let alone UT.

Did Dooley get a couple decent players? Yes. But even a blind squirrel gets a nut every once in a while. Especially when they coach for such a recognizable program.

What initial reports are you talking about? At the beginning there was a rumor about grades but everything that is out there now points to it being Riley's decision to leave

Too often I have seen incidents where you are dead right. I've also seen how employees and often the managers of Fantastic Sams hair salons rush up to tell an African-American they don't cut Black people's hair and to get them out of the door as fast as possible. So it depends on what the argument situation is about. In other words, the issue is real but we do see some people use it for imagined experiences or excuses. just remember the issue really does exist.
Not sure how Ferguson gets carded into this. That's nuts.

as expected, some totally missed my point. in the fanbase, some wanted fergy over dobbs due to race and not actual play. if you think that it didn't take place, then it's likely ur guilty because as i've stated many times before. nothing anywhere stated fergy was ever over dobbs from the coaching staff. NOTHING!

I have a totally insane idea. Ferguson is gone. Whatever people thought and wanted to happen regarding him is now a moot point. So take this race thing, and the Dobbs vs. Ferguson thing and flush it down the pipe that leads to North Carolina. See, what's the point of continuing to hash on it? The man's gone, gone, gone.

I really don't think there was much of the race factor at all. I think that most of the Ferguson fans wanted him because they had seen everyone else play, and weren't happy with any of them. Ferguson was the unknown savior to some.

I honestly believe that if the Dobbs/Ferguson situation was reversed, then the same people would be wanting to see Dobbs if he had never played.

Not race at all. I don't think the coaching staff wanted to Dumb down the offense and rest the game on just Athletic ability alone. Plus, Ferguson didn't want to do the work to get to that point. Maybe I am wrong but that is what I am reading here.

No need to hurl political insults at him, my man. Everybody is a racist whether they know or admit it or not. It's called ethno-centricism. Not a bad thing in and of itself. Until you use it as a weapon against others not of your ethnic extraction. Now, about that flushing this stuff down that pipe, perhaps you both need a demonstration. Here you go:

Most common sense post on this thread today.

It was a factor. Only an idiot or someone who thinks that way would deny it. Its not all or most who wanted RF . It is a factor for a portion of the most ardent anti Dobbs guys. If its not you great. But don't act like all our fans are unbiased.

I don't care who plays which position. May the best man win. I guess that I must be an idiot then, because I don't see much of a racial angle to this, beyond a very small handful of people. There are probably just as many who want Dobbs because of his color.

So let me see if I follow. If race never enters the equation of who I want to play QB at Tennessee, but then a guy tells me I'm a racist if I didn't/don't think the black guy is the best choice.... and I take offense to being called a racist, then I'm an idiot? Is that about it?
