Riley Ferguson appears to be gone

Natural attrition is a part of the fabric of college football. It happens at every school and at every position on the field. Frankly, it has been expected at Tennessee and at the quarterback position. There was simply no way four scholarships quarterbacks were going to remain happy.

However, attrition wasn't expected to happen now and it wasn't expected to be Riley Ferguson.

But on the 27th day of May, the redshirt freshman from Charlotte, N.C., who has never played a snap of college football, doesn't want to be at the University of Tennessee and won't compete in a competition he couldn't wait to have at the start of spring practice.

"Based on our recent conversations, I do not anticipate him (Ferguson) to be a member of our football family moving forward," Jones told VolQuest.com here at the Southeastern Conference's annual spring meetings.

Hubbs sounds pretty damn shocked.

It was probably inevitable that the loser of the Dobbs-Ferguson battle would leave. It would be ridiculous and cowardly for one of them to stomp off in a huff before the competition even really gets going.

But I thought RF was the best QB we had by a wide margin? I thought he had the best arm, was the most accurate, best runner and best decision maker? I mean the way many were talking RF was easily the next Peyton Manning and would easily win the starting job :)

In all seriousness, if he really wants to play somewhere else then I wish the kid good luck on his collegiate journey. I wonder if him leaving means that Worley and Dobbs have shown a lot of improvement?
